tbh, the neighborhood is not _that_ bad. I'm not sure I'd park my Maybach on the corner and waltz over to Outer Space with my Rolex glinting in the moonlight, but the area is reasonably safe in terms of shootings -- not Chestnut Hill, but Kensington, either. I'm a middle aged white guy and I'm comfortable enough there. This is of course as of August, 2024, after murders and shooting have dropped by 50% compared to August, 2022. (Weird)
