I arrived at the famous corner on 54th Street just below Haverford Avenue at about 4:20 pm on a Friday afternoon. The good news is that the sewer replacement project has been completed and there is more parking on 54th Street than there has been. I walked to the front door and paid my $10 entrance fee.

After stepping into LaPearl, there were two ladies sitting at the bar waiting for customers: “Barbie” and “Tweety” (Tweety as in “Tweety Bird”. She has a large tattoo of Tweety Bird on her left thigh.) Barbie does not look anything like the highly commercialized doll, because she is medium brown with big breasts and a rounded ass. She also has a preference for one-piece bodysuits that she has to pull to the side in her nether regions when she dances for you. Tweety on the other hand prefers a mismatched two-piece top and bottom. She drops the bottom the moment she backs up to you to dance between your knees. Both “girls” – one in her mid-20s and the other in her early 40s – provided very personal service while they were dancing at the downstairs bar. Barbie charged $10 a dance and asked for a tip because she had allowed a very hands-on experience. Tweety, on the other hand, asked for $5 a song and seemed very happy to accept whatever you gave her. No ‘pressure” from this older, more experienced woman.

In between these two dancers I went upstairs to see if anything was happening on the stage, and a 30- year-old named “Lady G” (as in “Lady Godiva”) approached me. She wanted to go back downstairs after our first dance on the upstairs bench so that she could give me “more personal attention”. While her dances were very entertaining, she did not remove any clothing below her waist – especially from her crotch. But she was not in a rush, and she accepted $5 a song. She also asked for a drink, which I was glad to provide -- $5 for a shot of liqueur followed by $3 for a sparkling water. So not very expensive at all. My small beer was still $2.
