EV: will you purchase one? Pros and Cons…
Here’s a quick summary of how the new, green economy is progressing in Germany: 1. Shut down clean nuclear 2. Move to unreliable wind/solar 2. Become reliant on Russian natural gas 3. Fire up dirty coal again And that, Ladies and Gentlemen, is what’s fueling those new, clean EVs in Deutchland

Dancers are 10 ? Club is 10 ? I guess we all have a different definition of what a 10 is. For me, it’s an ideal that can never be reached. Maybe 1% of dancers and clubs would rate a 9, never a 10. But, no matter whose scale we are using, I’m hard pressed to see how the Boat is a 10.

“as boomers move on the real estate market will be flooded with inventory “ Anyone in a home now, with a 2.5% mortgage, won’t sell the house. Ever. That will be up to his heirs.

Also, with lower water levels at Boulder Dam, Vegas is going to need some sweet nuclear power right quick.

“Go nuclear. It's the safest form of power generation,” In Arizona, Kari Lake has adding Nuclear plants as one of her platforms if elected Governor. We could become the power supplier to California. Nuclear plants lined up along the State border, charging outrageous fees.

The 2023 Chevy Bolt EUV will have a starting price of $29,000. It no longer qualifies for the $7,500 tax credit. It’s boring looking, charges slowly, has uncomfortable seats, and a cheap looking interior. But it gets over 200 miles in range and, did I mention, it’s $29,000. The real message is that electric cars will soon have costs similar to ICE cars.

I’m more worried about future food shortages than current food prices. For example, I read that farmers were butchering young hogs, reducing future supply, because feed prices made raising them unprofitable. Similar story with fertilizer and future corn and wheat crops.

In my experience, homes built in the upper Midwest are of much higher quality of construction than in the sunbelt. In the sunbelt, these tract homes are built by teams of subcontractors who are less stringent about legal work papers. In the upper Midwest, homes are built individually by skilled craftsmen. At least, that’s the way it used to be.

Meanwhile, in Russia. According to CBS, the rouble is “the best-performing currency in the world this year.” Russia has also just reported, per the NYT, “a record €93bn in revenue from exports of oil, gas and coal.” As the WSJ put it yesterday “Sanctions so far fail to dent Russia’s war effort.”

EVs are driven by people who want to let the world know how much they care about the environment. The electricity comes from coal burning plants and the batteries are made from rare metals that come from open pit mines.

There’s a new neighborhood like this near me. Incredibly small lots. About 4,000 sf and $2,000,000. Subcontractors are selected by the lowest bid. Every house looks alike. Not interested.

Times are changing George P. Bush lost his race in TX. Liz Cheney is about to lose her race in Wyoming. For the first time in nearly 50 years, there will not be a single Bush, Cheney, Clinton, Obama or McCain at any level of government.

If Arizona real estate drops 30%-40%, as many predict, I might buy a vacation home or upgrade my primary residence. The last time Arizona real estate corrected, it took 2 years to hit bottom.

    Rising Costs
Left to its own devices, capitalism can cure any financial situation. If there is a shortage of something, someone will find a way to produce more. If unemployment is high, people will discover what skills they can add to be employable. If labor becomes expensive, employers will use technology to reduce the need for labor. If labor is inexpensive, employers will hire. The problem is that government can’t let the healing power of market forces correct imbalances. They keep interest rates artificially low for too long. They mandate labor laws that make it difficult to hire. They subsidize one industry and penalize another. Government meddling is 90% of the reason we are in this economic hell hole.

The people in Washington, including Biden and Jerome Powell, are still saying everything is fine. Despite some inflation, the economy is sound. Recession is unlikely. The consumer is in good shape. Inflation will go away soon. No need to worry. Meanwhile, anyone shops in a grocery store or pumps their own gas, knows we are in deep shit.

    Inflation
For 6 months all the experts in government and media assured us that inflation would be transitory. They all used the same word. Transitory. Meanwhile, everyone else knew that was bullshit. It was obvious that inflation was real and serious. The vast majority of regular people have common sense. Our elite, in the Washington bubble, are clueless as to what is happening in the real world.

There is something very odd about the China lockdowns but nobody has figured what is really going on. Among the theories are: - Trying to crush the US economy - Preparation for invasion of Taiwan - Suppressing an insurrection - Another lab leak more severe than CoVid I can’t even guess what’s really going on.

Recessions are a necessary part of the business cycle. It forces businesses to improve their business model. New ideas, products, and processes are put in place and the economy becomes stronger and more stable. It’s a chance for renewal. It’s different this time. First, we’ve had 20 years of cheap capital and lazy business practices. There is a lot to clean up and it’s going to take much longer to correct. More businesses will die. More jobs will be eliminated. Second, the biggest mistake businesses made was outsourcing all their manufacturing to China. The zero CoVid policy in China has stopped manufacturing and US companies have no alternative. It took 30 years to do that and it’s going to take a very long time to get them back.

    Rising Costs
During the Great Depression, real estate values in Southern California plunged. People with cash ( including some movie stars in the day ) were able to buy property that became the source of a great fortune a decade later. As interest rates rise, there are going to be similar possibilities for those fortunate enough to have the cash.
