Strip Club in The Wrestler

Hey, did any of you see The Wrestler with Mickey Rourke. He hung out in a strip club, and supposedly it was in New Jersey. Does anybody know if that was shot in a real club, and if so, which one?

I saw the movie, and I think they called the club "Cheeks" -- MG says it was actually "Cheeques," so I guess that is correct.

The movie was interesting in its study of the characters. The aging wrestler was also a PL for an aging dancer (played by the 40-something-but-smoking-hot Marisa Tomei). These two characters were tragic figures, but the director evoked empathy for them effectively.

Interesting. Used to go to Cheeques quite a bit 15-20 years ago. It's a pretty small club, typical NJ go-go. Guess I'll have to check out the movie.

umm. I have yet to see that movie but I am going to rent it simply because it has a strip club in it. My recent favorite movie is "Casino Job" it is about a casino owner hiring 4 strippers (paying them 1k each) to come by his house and pretend like he is really cool so he can try to impress some real estate people into investing in his properties. All is well, until the casino owner decides to rape one of the strippers. The strippers decide to get revenge by ripping off his casino and losing his gaming license. It has pretty lame acting and poor plot but tons and tons of strip club scenes. Does anyone know what strip club was featured in this movie?

I'm waiting for it to come out on DVD. That's one of the best movies I've seen in recent years. I thought it had the best strip club scenes of any movie I've seen which had them (granted the only real competition in that category is Showgirls). The wrestling was pretty good as well, and I thought it was interesting how the one opponent wrestler at the end was basically a ripoff of the Iron Sheik, except that Randy Robinson (Rourke's character) was not a ripoff of Hulk Hogan, or anyone that I can tell. That movie reminded me of my teenage years, except I sucked at wrestling, and sports in general, and strippers were just a fantasy.

I just finished watching the movie. Weak plot, bad acting. The wrestling scenes were humorous. Although the strip club drama was a bit unrealistic, the strip club atmosphere was there and Marisa Tomei looked great. Not a keeper.

Shadowcat, please post reviews of upcoming movies. I'll be able to tell what is worthwhile by looking for movies that you claim have "bad acting." "The Wrestler" featured some of the best acting of 2008. Further, the "strip club drama" seemed plausible, not unrealistic. Customer wanted personal relationship with stripper; stripper kept boundary; once stripper decided to drop boundary, customer had decided to take another path... Very plausible.

how, don't take it personally. We all have different tastes. Even when it comes to strippers.

Here's some info on the upcoming Jessica Biel stripper movie "Powder Blue", which is due out soon?:

It looks as if we'll get to see her top half for sure, as well as her giving at least a few LDs.

Got to wait a bit, buried in the Youtube info was this:

"This newly released clip comes just days after news broke that anticipation of Jessica's on-screen nudity and hype from Swayze's final film wasn't enough to prevent their movie from falling victim to a straight to DVD/Blu-ray release on May 5th."

Surprising as there seem to be quite a few well known actors. In addition to Jessica Biel and Patrick Swayze (last film) there's Lisa Kudrow, Ray Liotta, and Forest Whittaker.
