Out of Place

Before last year’s Super Bowl, there was local news coverage of a bar in South Philly, not far from Lincoln Financial Field, that catered to Chiefs fans. San Francisco has an Eagles bar in the Mission District. It supposedly has authentic cheesesteaks made with Amoroso rolls shipped in from Philadelphia. There’s an Eagles bar in the River West area of Chicago that is also a haven for Iowa Hawkeye fans. There’s another bar for Hawkeye fans in the North Loop neighborhood in Minneapolis, less than 2 miles from the Huntington Bank (formerly TCF) Stadium where the U of M Golden Gophers play.

There have to be plenty of other bars catering to fans of teams in anomalous locations. Can you think of any?

I think I saw news that the owner of the Chiefs bar in Philly died and it might be closing.

Boston's on the Beach in Delray Beach Florida, my sports bar away from home. I travel a lot, but it still amazes me at how many locales in this land have a Boston sports bar.

And somehow I imagine Boston and maybe NYC as two big cities that would never host bars that cater to fans of out of town teams.

Chicago is another city that has a ton of "out of place" bars, especially for college football (lots of Big Ten alums there).
