Can you leave home without your phone?

The discussion about cell phone bans in clubs got me thinking, how many of you can leave home without your phone? How does it make you feel? I do it frequently - typically on weekends, to the chagrin of my wife, but once I get over the initial anxiety I find it very liberating.

I’m not so self-important to think that there’s anything that can’t wait until I get back home. And if someone can’t get in touch with me immediately - that’s their problem, not mine. I typically don’t bring my phone with me to the strip club, although the google translate does come in handy sometimes.

90% of the time my phone is with me anywhere I go. Clubs that have restrictions on phones are interesting. In Seattle I have been “talked to” about having my phone out at least once. BUT if I’m with a dancer the staff will see me on my phone and leave us alone.

I would hate not having a phone in the club. I use it to track my spending per girl, and to sometimes get phone numbers. Plus, if my wife texts me I can step outside and text her back that I’m still at Home Depot, the gym, car mechanic, or whatever other excuse I have for the day! I could do without it, but don’t want to.

I always have my phone but I leave it under my car seat when I go into clubs. I have accidentally dialed people when I am in the club, and that’s the last thing I need my wife, or a client to hear.

I have not yet seen this in any clubs. I imagine it would hurt business and i probably wouldn't go back.

No. I need it for work. That said I dont have to be on it all the time. If its not allowed I keep it in my pocket and check it in a bathroom stall. I remember clubs not allowing phones. But nowadays its so common for people to maje social media posts from clubs

I go through the phone bullshit with my friends all the time who refuse to accept that while they wet themselves if they leave their phone home, I simply turn it off for days at a time. If I have my phone with me, I take it to the strip club because most of the time I need it to keep track of my fantasy teams and sports bets. The last dancer to touch my phone was at desires and she took a bunch of sexy shots of her and put her phone number in. Everything was deleted and the number blocked before I started the car. Love dancers and they are a huge part of my entertainment life, but they are never going to be part of my real life and no, not because I am married as none of my technology is password subject and always left in the open at home. My wife's only comment about my posting on this site has been: "wow those words sound better in person than they look typed on a screen".

When I am alone I always take my phone with me in order to use GPS and for emergencies. If I'm with someone else that has a phone, I'll leave mine at home.

I have an inexpensive Nokia flip phone which I use use for emergencies such as calling AAA, etc. I always take it with me as it has become a habit. It has minimal internet capabilities so it stays in my pocket. It's like an insurance policy - you hope you never have to use it, but it's there just in case. Internet work is done on a computer at my residence.

For me, it depends where I am. If I'm familiar with the area, I have no issue leaving my phone at home. When I do, I find it amazing that no one can find me, and I just relax and enjoy myself.

My 3 buddies and I have been going on a week-long fishing/camping trip every September for 30 years, deep in the Adirondacks. It used to be that we never had any cell service at all, but over the years, it's improved greatly. My 3 friends have all succumbed to cell phone addiction and they're on them constantly, which I find very annoying.

Me? Well, my family and work people all know that I will be unreachable for the whole week. I keep up the lie that there is zero service where I'm going, and I keep it turned off.

I often leave it home if I go out for a few hours on errands or whatever, usually just because I forget to bring it. Sometimes I have it, but ignore a call from someone I don't want to talk to. Later I say I left my phone at home, which is totally believable, because everyone knows I often do. But if a strip club said I couldn't look at my phone, I'd leave, mostly because I just don't like being told what to do.

On the other hand, I never go ANYWHERE without a watch, and I mean an analog watch. I wear this hunk of metal on my wrist that has the numbers 1 through 12 on it, and three moving hands that point to those numbers, in case some of you weirdos don't know what that is.

@iknowbetter and @misterorange but what do you do if car breaks down or you need to call the cops or something? I get ignoring calls or texts, in fact my phone is on silent 100% of the time… if im at work people can reach me through teams/skype/email and my phone is open anyway so ill still see any calls or texts

It would be a massive pain in the ass if your car broke down or you needed to take a picture of someone/something or call the cops

I mean I dont own or carry a gun but even then, there can be scenarios you may want to call a cop

Also @icey you claim you need it for work but you dont even have a bank account or credit card by your own admission so whatever “work” your doing from your phone is illegal activities. Its sad you think its “work” the way an actual legitimate job is

🔺👍 ' Phone bans shouldn't be allowed coz language translation is needed for some strippers. I check the time sometimes & you don't wanna mis incoming calls. There could be emergency as well. Maybe if your stripper will allow, sneak a pic with her if phones is allowed. Phones be important for safety & emergencies on the road.

If you dont want to be interrupted put your phone on DND. Leaving it at home is excessive. You never know when you might need it

@chunkychicano Years ago, telephones were installed along the I-87 Northway (goes through the Adirondacks to Montreal) for decades, first with an initial wired system from 1965-1967 and then replaced with a radio-based emergency call box system in 1986. This State Police-installed system was removed by fall 2023. The removal was due to aging equipment, the unavailability of new parts, a decline in usage, and improved cellular phone service along the highway.

I need my phone for work, to punch in and get calls from one or more bosses for absolutely no rational reason.

Outside of work, half the time I just leave it at home. When I do drag it around with me, I make sure to leave it in the car when I go to movies, plays, and even the strip joints.

At one club, the bouncer frisking me asked, "No phone?"

"In the car."

"Good place for it."

The reasons I like to always have my phone with me are as follows:

  1. I always want to be able to summon help in an emergency, whether that be for myself or for someone else, and also to receive emergency alerts in a timely fashion.
  2. I'm an emergency contact for a family member.
  3. Notifications from home security system.
  4. GPS has occasionally saved me from long traffic delays, even if I'm familiar with the area that I'm driving in.
  5. My phone can double as a flashlight and a magnifier in a pinch.
  6. Checking the weather and radar map, usually for inclement weather.

There's probably something else I'm forgetting right now, but I care about having my phone with me for practical reasons...

I can go without my phone if all I am doing is getting fast food in a drive thru or if I am going to my local grocery store for one or two specific items.

As far as strip club visits go, my phone stays in the cubby hole where the arm rest is. I don't need to contact anyone while at the strip club.

I have it with me all the time. I wouldn’t go to a club that bans them. I need to be available for work calls all day, and I need to be available for calls from my wife. I don’t take it out in the club except to exchange numbers, and that was my near downfall. I got a number from a new dancer after a VIP at an out of town club and didn’t lock my phone and pocket dialed the wife. She didn’t hear the words but heard me have a 3 minute conversation with a woman as I walked out of what was clearly a bar at 1 am. I ended up admitting it was a SC (she really has no clue what happens there) to dispel the impression I was out trying to pick up a civvie. Still a rough little patch

@chunkychicano Carrying my phone at all times is definitely a convenience - or maybe essential in case of an emergency, but I have to remember that I somehow survived the first 30 years of my life without a cell phone, and my first 40 years without handheld internet smartphones. I deliberately try not to be so dependent on my phone and be more present in reality. Another thing I like doing when driving is to put away my phone, turn off the ac, open the windows and sunroof and listen to the radio. This is especially fun when driving across the causeway from Miami to the beach.

I usually leave the phone in my glove box in the car, since I retired I no longer feel a need to be available to anyone 24/7, I do check my messages every few hours, if it’s important I’ll call them back as soon as I can otherwise most of my messages are returned when I feel like it.

^ Except... back then there were pay phones everywhere if you absolutely had to make an important call. Try finding a pay phone now.

If a club won't let me in with my phone, they'd better be pleasant about calling a rideshare for me. Out here there are never taxis cruising by the clubs.

I take it people here don’t have an employer that requires two-factor authentication for logging in to their system. (In which case, the answer is that your phone is absolutely needed)

My phone is linked to somebody’s Dexcom account. I like being alerted if something is off.

Admittedly, it is exhausting trying to break away from algorithm induced dopamine hits. I just try to avoid the “hardcore drugs” of Instagram and TikTok, and I have neither of those apps installed.

I need 2FA to access work stuff on my laptop but I don’t bring my laptop to the SC. I’d prefer something else on my lap. I also have a loved one with T1D but they’re an adult so I don’t have to monitor their CGM

I have my phone with me pretty much all the time. I've forgotten it on occasion, but it doesn't particularly bother me to leave it home.

I haven't tried to buy a paper map in many years. I assume few if any gas stations hand them out for free these days. If I know the route, unless it's subject to traffic jams, I won't look it up on a mapping app. I don't have confidence those apps always give you the fastest route. But I do carry my phone, in case I need to call a wrecker or cops or other emergency service. I'd be fine with leaving it in the glove box. I'd take it as a good sign if a club prohibited phones. Between strippers and assholes who take their pictures without permission, it's a no-brainer for me whose side I'm on.
