It’s really unnecessary. Pretty much everything is curable and spread can be stopped with regular testing. Even HIV shouldn’t spread if medication is taken properly and high risk individuals which include a lot of us honestly can take PREP so they pretty much do t have to worry about HIV.
It’s ridiculous how high STD rates are and sexual practices don’t really need to be changed to reduce those rates. In Europe STD rates aren’t nearly as high but they have better healthcare and are more practical about the issue.
I’m not saying you don’t have to worry about it. I’m saying there is medication to stop transmission of it. Vitally suppressed people don’t spread it and there is medication that protects you from contracting it if your habits are risky.
So AIDS shouldn’t be something we have to worry about if we managed risk in the population but as it is we definitely have to be concerned.
@Icey - In the western world, HIV is very treatable nowadays. There are enough good drugs that if you take them like you're supposed to, you can probably live a normal lifespan. A lot of them are off-patent too and therefore extremely cheap.
@dustyj - I actually agree with you on PEPFAR. It's a tragedy that it got caught up in a mindless rush to cut all "foreign aid," especially with newer drugs approaching 100% efficacy.
Still, there's no substitute for wrapping your dick, or making sure the dick that goes in you is wrapped.
A few hundred a month is a lot of money for most to spend on meds. Then theres keeping a job while being sick etc. it eventually culminates in aids a death. Its nothing to trivialize
This thread just proves how uniformed (or stupid) Icee is. For a straight male, not doing stupid stuff like IV drugs or failing to use a condom, the chances of dying from AIDS in 2025 is virtually statistically insignificant. Getting killed in an automobile accident driving to the strip is at least 50 times greater.
After hearing about how some Florida doctors handle STD reporting, I am somewhat skeptical about the accuracy and completeness of the CDC numbers.
I've been told from reliable sources that Florida doctors will go to great lengths to diagnose a suspected STD as something else when they can. For example, STD-related throat and eye infections suddenly become strep throat or pink eye or, my favorite, "unspecified throat infection." They just don't want to deal with the extra paperwork, which includes identifying the infected to the state department of health. The treatments are basically the same anyway, so no harm no foul.
This really makes me wonder how accurate our STD reporting data actually is. I suspect not very.
^that is exactly what they marked my throat and eye infection even when i told them i thought they were likely STDs. They only do a visual examination for the eye regardless; i guess if they wanted to they could collect the eye discharge and test it. For the throat they do a throat swabbing but my gag reflex was too strong so they couldn’t get a good swabbing, it came in negative. For the weener itself the urine test came back negative and i didnt do the requested blood tests. Im glad things turned out that way, i didnt know about the std tracking and reporting. They blamed everything on a bacterial infection, gave me antibiotic eyedrops, oral doxycycline, as well as an antibiotic injection in the ass.
Now even for the urine test, they gave me some water to drink beforehand, i think they said to make sure the very first stream of urine goes in the cup, i messed up and didnt get the initial stream into the cup properly. But i wasnt going to come back for another visit, so i gave them whatever urine i got into the cup. Even the urine test and throat swab tests only check for gonorrhea and chlamydia i believe. For other things they want bloodwork. I heard herpes isnt even included on a standard std panel.

Motorhead and Puddy i thought AIDS risk is very low even if you have unprotected vaginal or oral sex? Is that not true.
