As Speaker, Mike Johnson is in the best spot to get a bill through the House, empowering the President to impound Federal spending at his discretion. But, he'd rather see the separation of powers get blacked by Clarence Thomas:

DOGE is basically an unconstitutional privatization scheme. Gutting the fdw protections Americans have from the oligarchs. And placing the entire country in oligarchs hands.
^ ERRRR WRONG Cupcake.

Congress has tried to "find fraud and waste" for decades, and nothing happens. DOGE just reports on what it finds and then it is up to POTUS/WH to decide what stays and goes. DOGE has no power what so ever. 1,000s of gov't employees have access to all this data (as well as the CCP) and not one does a thing to report fraud. You should have listened to Elon's Q&A this afternoon. No one ever challenges what he talks about as wrong.

If the IGs & Congress did their job to ferret out waste and fraud, this wouldn't be happening. How does the Military fail 8 audits and nothing happens? WorldCom and ENRON failed their audits and where shutdown with their Ponzi Scheme. same here.

Elon brought up the federal gov't can only process 10,000 retirements/month. Why? It's all on paper,. Then stored in boxes in a 1955 limestone mine underground, and the elevator can only move 10,000 retirements/month. All this needs to be scanned and digitized. The digitized storage could be in mine and sent electronically. Paper needs to go. To create a web-based retirement process is not rocket science. And, it could be done by a USA, not Canada like ObamaCare, software company.

I remember when Ben Carson (HUD Sec) under Trump was surprised the HUD desktop computers still used 3.5" floppies.

DoD failed something like 10 consecutive audits because they couldn’t appropriately correct spending. As Mogul said, Doge only reports fraud/waste they discover, they have no authority to actually do anything.
Anyone thinking our current system is not full of fraud and kickbacks on all sides is naive and crazy. Kind of like the PL who thinks the dancer really does like him.
I love how the Dems are so against Musk and DOGE they are actively positioning themselves as the champions of waste, fraud and abuse.

And it's so funny when they scream that Musk can access your personal info and he's UNELECTED! UNELECTED! UNELECTED! Oh, the horror.

I just get on my knees and THANK GOD that everyone at the IRS, and my bank, and my doctor's office, and my insurance company, and my employer, and the DMV, and my credit protection company, and the clerk who processes my firearms applications, and my tax preparer... THANK GOD they are all ELECTED or else I would be beside myself with worry.
^ I’ve said this before, and I’m going to say it again, I think Musk is a smart guy and I refuse to prejudge what’s being done with this new department, DOGE, but I have severe misgivings about the role that Musk is playing in this space. There’s something very wrong with a person who owns companies that receive billions of dollars in contracts from this government, overseeing spending by the very government that he is overseeing.
It is the very reason why we need an independent Inspector General that is knowledgeable about what the findings mean, and that is what is very troubling to many of us, not just democrats.
The appearance of self dealing needs to be addressed and avoided, for this to be accepted by the general public.
^If you had felt the same about Nancy Pelosi's husband receiving all of their wealth through government contracts, your post would have some impact.

For decades, both parties in Congress have dealt with their inability to pass legislation by abdicating responsibility to the executive and judicial branches.

I see points in what a few of you are saying; @25 I see your point on the appearance of conflict of interest, but Musk doesn't have formal authority. He can suggest, but ultimately it's Trump's decision to spend or not spend. We should demand a full accounting of what a Musk company gets. In the same spirit of transparency that DOGE is trying to bring.

But Democrats are objecting to _everything_ Musk and DOGE are doing. Money for transgender hero comic books in South America? Essential spending. Auditing the $841 billion DoD budget? Unconscionable. Democrats are positioning themselves as the party of waste, fraud, and abuse.
^That's what they are, because without using taxpayer money to buy votes they have nothing to offer.
@skibum
Exactly when did I support Pelosi’s husband or even Nancy Pelosi ?
Not that it has anything to do with anything anyhow!
@PT
I’m speaking for anyone but myself
That’s the real problem with trying to have a reasonable discussion with you MAGA folks, it always turns into whataboutism.
The biggest waste and fraud
Funding right wing regimes
The pentagon
USAID
Corporate welfare
The border wall
Handouts to businesses

Geez, 25, I can't even agree with you without you wanting to turn it into some kind of a fight. Actually enough people have said the same thing you have and I agree there.

A sleazebag won the election fair and square, so it only makes sense he brings in sleazebag assistants to give the people the sleaze they voted for.

The Constitution says the President shall "take care that the laws are faithfully executed". USAID is established by law, so closing it down is not faithfully executing the law. If the executive can spend less than the allocated budget for a unit of government, that's great, but not by abandoning the purposes specified by law for that unit of government.

If Trump keeps punishing civil servants for not obeying DOGE minions, the courts may declare that DOGE is a governing, not just an advising, executive body, that need enabling legislation (passed by Congress).

The threat of Impeachment is supposed to keep the President from ignoring the law, and becoming a de facto dictator. But the Senate may be more than one third MAGA whackjob at this point. It will probably be the Gordon Gecko principle (greed is good) that will save us. Trump backs off if he sees asset prices tanking.

PT is not MAGA. True red MAGA is less than 30% of the public. Trump won because of people thinking like the old lady, who swallowed the spider to catch the fly.
@PT
Why is that a fight, you’re not even responding to me, your just adding elements that have less than nothing to do with my statement and trying to get me to respond to your complaints about democrats, I don’t identify as either a democrat nor a republican there are many other political views than just those two.
If you want to have a discussion about my statement then fine, throw everything and a plate of spaghetti on the wall, I don’t have to fall for straw man nonsense.

@25, no one is making a straw man here, I said outright that I agree we need to make sure there isn't even an appearance of conflict of interest. The rest wasn't addressed to you, hence why I only mentioned you in one paragraph. Either way, congratulations, you have your TUSCL fight of the day. Put a check next to February 12, 2025 on your calendar.

@ilbbaicnl - I am MAGA as long as MAGA aligns with my beliefs. It didn't always, and might not again. Elsewhere I've railed against what they're doing with NIH funding, or nominating Bear Killer Kennedy to HHS. I'd say I agree with 80% of what they're doing, including the line-by-line elimination of government waste.
I’m not fighting with anyone you need to be clear when you respond and if you don’t like my response address that directly, I don’t care what anyone else thinks about me or how they react, I don’t dislike you personally and I try to be respectful of everyone until they start putting words in my mouth.
I’ve never been against you or anyone else because of their political views but if you think I’m going to lie down and allow folks to run me over you’re sadly mistaken.
Don’t address me and add superfluous comments about what democrats do it doesn’t apply to what I’ve ever said
Progressives are literally brain dead. Trump won not because of MAGA, but because the average American thinks you fucks are whackdoodles and incompetent at everything. I would hate getting shot. I would relish it over being set on fire. That is why progressives lost.

@PT won't I have to become an alcoholic now that our borders are totally under control?
Mike Johnson is such a wimp. Even his own party doesn't like him, but they don't have anyone better.

Same with Mitch "Somehow he's still alive" McConnell.
