It doesn't sound like they are differentiating between full-time OF chicks and the ones for whom it's a side hustle. MIami and Vegas have a lot of strippers and escorts, who are probably more likely than average to have an OF side hustle.
Full-time OFers can live wherever they want. I can believe it that Miami would be a favorite place to live for 20-somethings. But not so much Vegas.
Yeah, the data on which they're drawing conclusions is super limited. There are certainly a lot of strippers who do it here. We also have a number of managers who help them. I'm not talking about pimps, but more actual legit producer types. They'll work with a number of girls, often part timer girls. But they'll either be or hire an actual photographer with legit equipment and stuff, as well as tools & talent for editing and post-processing. They'll arrange for collabs with other girls, often also their clients. They'll take a few days and produce a bunch of content for staggered release. They'll handle the day to day interactions with customers. They take a cut of the profits obviously.
I think those guys being here are likely why there are a lot of girls doing it here. It's just sorta become an extension of our already pretty extensive network of porn production studios. The fact that Vegas is #2 kinda reinforces that. LA or another nearby area also being in the top 5 wouldn't surprise me.
I laugh at some of these stupid stories, back in the day there were pervs running around town with cameras pretending to be agents, this is just the latest iteration of that old chestnut, my best guess is this puff piece was suggested to NBC by some scam artist who’s probably trying to promote himself as a producer or talent agent.
Interesting that the story states that "MOST OF creators are in Miami". I highly doubt that MOST are there....although I could buy that there may be more in Miami than any other place. Even more than Vegas, I would think that LA would have a lot.
Reminds me of Medellin, Columbia, which seems to be a global cam girl center. They even have buildings with rooms in Columbia that the girls rent, with good decorations and high-quality video/audio equipment.
It's quite noticeable when looking at a US-based camgirl, then switching to a Columbia-based girl.
I wonder if there similar centers in Miami for OF creators.
The $9k/month earnings it noted at being in the "Top 5%". I believe this proves that OF is not a reliable primary income source for most (other than providing some good side income), particularly in a high-cost city such as Miami.
If a girl is already in South Florida, why not move a bit north to a FL city which has good strip clubs, and lower rent? Of course, for a 20-something girl, it doesn't get much better than Miami. So, lifestyle is a larger factor than economics (assuming you can actually live in a suitable home/apartment).

I agree its total garbage reporting/study, but I do find it amusing.
