That's actually pretty common in South Florida, I've seen it at Tootsies, Booby Trap in Pompano, Scores in Lake Worth, I remember it at Pure Platinum in Fort Lauderdale, they are commonly used at some of the more crowded nightclubs, the Police Departments actually, offer it to businesses that have a certain number of calls as a way of minimizing their exposure to accusations of nuisance calls. Personally it appears to be a payoff to the departments,to look the other way and provide cover for trouble spots.
AFAIK here in SoFlo police work security in stores; etc; so why not a strip club; it's a legal-business after all.
Here in SoFlo, police that work as security do not work as bouncers; the club still has bouncers; the cops mainly stand by the door mostly as a deterrent or if things get out of hand inside the club (fight; or someone refusing to leave; etc) and an arrest needs to be made.
It's a bad move. The pigs will have a major conflict of interest and will be a lot less likely to go after any crime that happens on the premises. Plus they'll be more likely to beat the shit out of patrons and use force.
A lot of clubs have gang ties. When cops and gang members start working together it's going to increase police corruption. The cops will have a vested interest in keeping these places open. A lot of Blood gang members from Atlanta bring hoes to LA clubs coz the security and promoters have ties to Bloods. That has to be present in Atlanta as well. The cops who work with them will end up like the police gangs in LA.
sounds like an easy way to mitigate any nuance law breakings (such as touching dancers). Can't imagine how well business works if cops were regularly bodyguarding strip clubs. YIKES! Then again, I also don't think TUSCL type customers are the majority at strip clubs either so we'll see.
i would have no problem with them working the door OUTSIDE the club. it might even discourage people with outstanding WARRANTS from wanting to try and enter the club.
There is nothing that is forcing clubs to hire cops as security, this just gives them the option if they want it.
I've seen a lot of clubs that have off duty cops working security and it has never been a problem because they are there as security and not as bouncers roaming the vip to monitor what happens during a dance. I have noticed that the clubs that have cops working the door tend to have a crowd that skews a little older and less of the party crowd than other clubs.
Club Desires has had uniformed providence police in the lobby on weekends since forever. I go out to my car, smoke herb, reek like weed, say hello to them on my way back in and if something goes bad they are there already.
Could be good or bad, depending on the individual cop. One of my past favs told me a cop customer "pretended" to arrest her. Including cuffing her. The club manager was in on the "joke". Another fav had a stalking problem with a cop. Not nice having a stalker who can force you to pull over and stop.
^ As opposed to pimps taking money from ho's that they ply with drugs, to get them addicted, and keep dependant on the pimp, who get their drugs from those gangbangers.
Reminds me of the Circle of Life from The Lion King, a real Disney production ehh, Iceefag.

last commentThis is just to drive away customers and suppress extras. Could you imagine cops working security at Follies?
