I recently reconnected with a fave who had done some vanilla work during the shut down. One of her things was being an Instacart driver. I have no experience with Instacart. She said that she got no money from the delivery if the recipient didn't tip. That seems like a weird business model if it is true. What am I missing here?
They get paid for each trip. As far asbtipping goes you have the option to add a percentage of the cost of your groceries or a different tip.
I haven't driven for them but use the service.
The downside I'm seeing for drivers is how manyntrips can they really make per day. On average it takes like 40 minutes from when a driver gets my list til they deliver it. And thatsbwithvpaying for priority delivery
A quick Google search showed the following (but I didn't do an extensive search):
"... Instacart provides an estimate of potential earnings for every order and guarantees shoppers will earn at least $5 for each delivery-only batch and $7 to $10 for each full-service (shop and deliver) batch. ... A larger order, which tends to be heavier, will likely result in more compensation than a small shopping job ..."
I've read customers can retract tips once an order is complete. So someone will put like a $30 tip for example. They get their items and then retract that $30 or most of it to be a dick and the independent contractor gets nothing. There was an article about this, I think, on CNN or some major news site a few months ago.
I've retracted tips when they bring the wrong items or damage my items. Or some are too lazy to bring everything to my door. But I tip 10% if it goes well
