I would question the sources for these statistics. Do they include the metro area or strictly city limits. I believe that City of Industry CA should probably be at the top of the list. It has 4 clubs and a 2021 population of 198.

Not surprising at all to see Nashville at the bottom.

The size of the club would also factor in. Some cities tend to have small clubs. In others, like Vegas, only the big clubs survive.

    Useless statistic of the year

In Vegas there are lots of small and even tiny clubs that have survived for decades. They just don’t get tons of reviews but they can be a lot of low profile fun.

This includes the whole metropolitan area. For example the NYC metro has a population of over 19 million, the LA area 13 million, the Chicago area over 9 million, etc. [view link] Only metros with a population over 1,000,000 were included. Here's the strip club totals for each. Portland, OR 47 Tampa, FL 46 New Orleans, LA 15 Virginia Beach, VA 20 Louisville, KY 14 Jacksonville, FL 16 Las Vegas, NV 21 Cleveland, OH 19 Miami, FL 55 Baltimore, MD 25 Houston, TX 58 Oklahoma City, OK 11 Milwaukee, WI 12 Charlotte, NC 19 Detroit, MI 32 Indianapolis, IN 15 Philadelphia, PA 45 Pittsburgh, PA 16 Tucson, AZ 7 Columbus, OH 14 Salt Lake City, UT 8 New York, NY 129 Richmond, VA 8 Providence, RI 10 Los Angeles, CA 82 Memphis, TN 8 Phoenix, AZ 28 St. Louis, MO 16 Austin, TX 12 San Antonio, TX 14 Dallas, TX 40 Buffalo, NY 6 Atlanta, GA 28 Birmingham, AL 5 Raleigh, NC 6 Orlando, FL 11 San Diego, CA 14 Denver, CO 12 Hartford, CT 5 Minneapolis, MN 14 Kansas City, MO 8 Rochester, NY 4 Chicago, IL 31 Washington DC 19 Seattle, WA 11 San Jose, CA 5 Boston, MA 12 Cincinnati, OH 5 San Francisco, CA 10 Riverside, CA 9 Grand Rapids, MI 2 Sacramento, CA 4 Nashville, TN 3

Based on my anecdotal observation I would agree that Portland has a lot of clubs compared to various other cities.

I bet that is an old list. Just getting back from Vegas, I have noticed that over half which were open, are now closed.

The list from TheEckster would have been more helpful if it was sorted. I'm not that bored right now, but maybe somebody else is.

Or I guess the second list. Hadn't noticed TheEckster was also the OP.

I concur that city limits / metro area skew these stats. Little ol' Springfield, OR has 2 clubs, population 62,000. That's over 3 per 100K. Two years ago there were 4 clubs.

This says the Las Vegas area has 21 strip clubs open. [view link]

Once one becomes an experienced SCer one realizes how good the clubs are matters a lot more than how many clubs there are - I'll take a city w/ two really-good clubs over a city with 10, or even 20, avg to shitty clubs. Different cities have different ordinances which is usually the governing factor on how "good"/fun the clubs will be (or even if there are any clubs at all) - good strip-club cities are more the exception than the norm .

^. Papi, I would agree with most of what you are saying. But the simple existence of the clubs would make you THINK that the area is not opposed to the concept of a strip club. Nashville does not tolerate them and thus there are 3. I find that funny given the Metro area is about 1.7 million. But I have clubbed in New Orleans, and it is NOT among the best.

I was in Portland once, long ago. I was surprised by the number of strip clubs. It seemed like they were just adding a stage and converting bars into strip clubs. Must have been some court rulings which lifted any restrictions. So all with alcohol and all nude. I prefer no alcohol, but I know it makes it easier on the club operators to have it. And then I guess no zoning limits or anything. And then you get what I saw on xotispot, clubs with one dancer on the day shift. A strip club which can run a shift with just one dancer, is not a strip club. We don't have strip clubs like that here, our LE is too tough and they believe that they have the political mandate to shred the Constitution to enforce. I think xotispot also really helped. They let the clubs make sites on their system. You could see the dancers. You could see their other clubs, and you could see her friends and their clubs. Probably they all danced at similar clubs. And then once you can contact a dancer outside of the club, she is potentially your escort, and once she gets used to that, she will want to do UHM ITC too. Portland sounds like a really cool place. Here things are all highly regulated. In San Francisco the problem is that no one can open more clubs. Need to replace strip clubs with a cooler venue: [view link] SJG Anita O'Day - Take The "A" Train [view link]

Throw this list in the trash. Portland clubs blow. Dancers there are a bunch of entitles left-wing psychos

Considering how small Providence is, and how there really isn't a metropolitan area per se, I would think it would top the list.

This list is useless. It is an interesting statistical list, but it’s useless for a true PL. In my area the city of Paterson NJ has a good number of clubs - and that likely gets lost in the NYC number. There were a decent number of clubs in Irvington NJ too.

Strip clubs are definitely a quality over quantity hobby. I'd rather have one consistently great club to become a regular at, then several inconsistent and mediocre clubs.

If I have enough time, I’m going to try to look at each area and see if the list has to be modified. Nashville only has two clubs, I think the third one that got counted is technically a swingers clubs with an approved application required to get in. I already knew that off the top of my head because I had my eye on trying out Nashville at some point. But otherwise cool write up! 😊

Wow Nashville used to have more than 2 clubs. Back in the 90s I remember at least 4. Some of my earliest clubbing was at Club Platinum and Deja Vu out there. @nicespice Nashville is a good city to visit regardless of the strip clubs.

@sirlap, I agree. I hung out out over there briefly just passing through and wanted to be there longer. Also did a little bit of hiking not too far away. I also scooped out Deja Vu as a customer but wow it seemed busy. Even girls who would have been laughed out of the club if they tried auditioning in some other places I know had no problems staying busy selling the one-way-contact-only dances out there. I’m not opposed to contact, but seemed like a good environment. That and the way people were interacting with each other seemed like some friendly vibes. Not the best for customers no doubt, but I wouldn’t mind trying it out. And yeah, Nashville is harsh on strip clubs there, which is why it’s only down to two :/ The Vu has pushed back and sued the city before on a couple of things. And the Vu has signs up in their club encouraging reaching out to city hall for some of its draconian crap. They can stay alive thanks to their corporate backing. As for the other club Pure Gold not too sure what they do, but I know it’s the more upscale club of the two.

Do they play country music in Nashville strip clubs? That could have an influence. Good or bad!

Nashville is great, I have been there a couple times over the last year but not to dance. I was there for a wedding recently and like half our wedding party went to a strip club. I went back to the hotel. They all said it was lame af. This was on a Thursday night. But I hear Nashville's strip club scene sucks.

Yeah @Nina even when there were more clubs I always thought the Nashville strip club scene sucked. That said, I like them Southern Belles so I never had an issue with the dancers themselves. I always liked the downtown live music scene there. Plus friendly locals and of course the good ole southern food at the Loveless Cafe. Best. Grits. Ever!

^^^^^ Very interesting article. I for one am not looking forward to McStripClub becoming the norm. I say that for major metro's, strip clubs are passé, and that we need to invent a new kind of venue. [view link] SJG

i dig SC trivia. if i remember right: california, texas and florida are the only us states with at least 100 SCs, right? and thanks to this site, there's only about 3,000 or so total SCs in the US which (on paper) divides into an average of about 60 per state (not including territories) i remember when i first saw '3,000' or so SCs in The US, i thought that number was way too low then i thought about it and it seems about right i think there's only 1 us state without an 'official' SC? right?

^^^^ It used to have 1, in Burlington. New Hampshire I believe has 0. Here it says two open ones for New Hampshire. [view link] Here it lists 4 for Vermont, but they are flagged as closed [view link] Mexico [view link] Baja has 40 listed as open, and it says that Las Chevales merged with the HK Bar.
