Considering that females tend to get the bigger paychecks and participate by choice, not sure how it is any more difficult than anyone else in the business.
A few more details about the article and what it designated as the difficulties might be useful.
About a decade ago I read an article that talked about the effects of sexual pleasure on the brains of men and women. The essence of the article was that lots of sexual activity without the ability/opportunity to emotionally bond seemed to wear harder on women than men. There are women who can go through life that way, they just represent a smaller total of the population. Presumably, if that study was accurate you would see it as one cause for a high turnover rate in the industry. Unless say two performers really had some chemistry and established a working relationship over time that allowed that bonding to happen.
For those of you guys involve two follow up questions:
1-Is porn different in American than in Europe? I notice in America the girls doing porn can do 1-10 then retire you never hear from them again. Of coures there are exceptions, however, it seems like 1/ or more fall in this category. Meanwhile, in Europe it seems like a actress will appear in all sorts of movies and be part of "circuit" where she shoots with multiple companies becomes part of the porn community. I've seen this in reality tv as well, in America they'll find someone new to do the show, while in Europe "reality tv" is a career and they'll have the same characters in multiple shows ready to be booked.
I don’t know much about European porn - except for those hot and filthy German Goo Girls! But, if porn is more of a community, and there is support for the performers, it would lend itself to longevity. In the US it’s more of a way for some girls to get in and make quick money, and try to get out before everyone they know realizes what they do.
It’s still largely a taboo industry in the US, so acceptance is difficult.
I haven’t read the article - but I’ve heard that Riley Reid provided interesting insights regarding her challenges of developing relationships with civilians after being in the industry for several years.
It’s probably difficult physically - but the body can heal from the physical. It’s the emotional challenges that can linger for many years.

Haven't read the article, but I'm guessing the dudes who preside over the porn business might not be the most enlightened individuals on seeing work issues from a female perspective (to put it lightly).
Yep, and now that the cancel culture is in full swing on social media there is a whole new avenue to attack rivals. Go look at what happened to that one girl to kill herself, August Ames was her name I think. There was a group of actors whose life stlye was too risk filled for her to work with. But they were politically untouchable. She called them out, the cancel machine put her through the wringer, and she committed suicide.
The porn industry has to be more heavily media centered just because of its business model. If you've had other issues and are more vulnerable, a whole scale social media attack can be the final straw for some people.
A good friend of mine nearly went into business with an A-list porn star, meaning I have seen her name mentioned multiple times here and I'm sure discussion board regulars have pounded out hundreds of loads to her.
1. A day on set is strenuous. You spend hours getting dolled up, posing, doing softcore shoots, contorting into positions under hot lights for 12 hours a day for a week.
2. The emotional bond between male and female co-stars is no more than you and any of your female coworkers. It can be great, and the chemistry will transfer to the scene. Or it can be awful. Some male stars are cool as shit and others are worse than any girl.
3. She admitted she "is starting to hate men." Yes, she was sexually abused by an uncle as a kid, and now has trouble forming emotional bonds with men. Off set, the last thing she wants to do is fuck her boyfriend, she'd rather ice down her cooch and watch Game of Thrones.
4. She's a hottie (8) in her videos, but just a hair above average in real life. Makeup works wonders.
5. She's done a good job of managing her career and value, probably pulls a few hundred thousand a year. She's a white girl, and says doing interracial and anal hurts your market value, so she limits those.
6. She's looking for an off-ramp from porn, she's in her upper 30s, but the money is just too good. Still, according to my friend, she doesn't have the discipline to take on a new career.
7. She escorts, but hates it. Charges exorbitant rates to scare guys off, and is by her own admission a lousy fuck. But she likes stripping.
That's kind of an info dump, but yes, it's hard and time-limited work. Like stripping, but on steroids.
