Western Occultists were looking to find Western Sex Magic in Tantra.
There had long been accusations against Templars and Cathars of engaging in Sex Magic. I think this unlikely of Cathars, but I don't really know. Of Templars it is what they would have learned from the Muslim Occultists Nizari
But is seems that the first believable Western writings on Sex Magic come to us in Paschal Beverly Randolph (1825-1875), son of a wealthy VA father and of a black slave from Madagascar. Randolph sailed the world and we don't know where he got his ideas.

And then we have OTO co-founder Theodore Reuss in 1917 writing in "The Gnostic Neo-Christians" (not in libraries) " A new civilization, a new system of morals will arise from the new Christianity of the gnostic Templar-Christians ... [T]he Church of the gnostic Neo-Christians seeks to found communities ... of sinless, i.e. freed from the Nazarene Christian idea of original sin, people.
I would point out that Reuss was co-founder of the OTO long before Aliester Crowley was involve.

And in "Parsifal and the Secret of the Graal Unveiled" (1914) Reuss writes, " [T]he sexual-religion of the future ... is based on the necessary ritual completion of the sex-act. The New Gospel of Salvation of the Sexual Religion! "
Randolph saw sex magic to be used for
- increasing the brain and body power of an unborn child 2, Influencing one's wife or husband, magnetically controlling them
- regaining youthful beauty, energy, vivacity, affectional and magnetic power
- prolonging the life of either the subject or actor 5, attainment of Supreme white magic of will, affection or Love
- furtherance of financial interests or undertakings
- attainment of the loftiest insight possible to the earthly soul

Randolph saw sex magic to be used for

They say this sect is persecuted in Islam and believed to practice Sex Magic.
Not heard of this before.
