And, he and his daughter Gigi were simply on their way to her basketball game....which he was going to coach. Such a wholesome day ruined by tragedy.
I just can't imagine the pain Lakers fans are feeling. The die-hards, who love the game, team, and players more than most people it's possible to. I imagine all the little kids who looked up to him, who still do. I imagine how I would feel if I was a teenager and God forbid that happened to my favorite players. I would be so depressed.
For me I haven't been as shocked by a celebrity-death since the fatal car-crash that took Princess Diana's life - it was a big shock and so unexpected but these things are never expected
It's terrible and I feel very sorry for his daughter and her friends loss. She had a full life in front of her.
For him it was a rich man's death. Helicopters are amazing and fun but they are 100% unforgiving of either maintenance issues or pilot error. If you live your life on them you are gambling with your life.
I flew on helicopters in the army, loved it. I flew in them flying into the Grand Canyon, what a rush! They are super fun but there is a reason they are not used for commercial aviation.
They always say the most dangerous part of a trip is your ride to and from the airport. I believe it as the only 3 accidents Ive been in have been when i was parked or at a standstill
I am sure you are a frequent traveler NJ Baller. Google is your friend. My experience is limited to over 100 private corpotate private flights plus military experience. Nothing compared to to vast internet's.
If the accident helicopter was equipped with FDR (Flight Data Recorder), and it is recovered, NTSB will be better able to determine the cause of the crash.
I don't really give a shit about Kobe - shit happens. It's not like I know the dude personally.
But as a Dad, hearing about the kids dying did make me sad. It's a tragedy any time a child dies since that child has not even had a chance to live yet. They never got to fall in love, get married, go to prom, go to college, explore the world, have children of their own, etc., etc. When I see a child die it reminds me of my own worst fears regarding my own children - about the only type of nightmare I have anymore.
"Guess thats what you get trying to show off in the helicopter"
After 2 decades of being rich AF, and being retired going to basketball game to coach your daughter, one can infer that he most likely wasn't trying to show off. LA area traffic is the worst in the country, a place that should take 30 mins in the midwest could take hours there. So people who are very rich often take helicopters to beat traffic. Rich New Yorkers do it too to get to JFK. When you have that much money it is usually about convenience and not showing off.
I don't even have to Google it, helicopters are more dangerous than small planes. I've been in a six seater jet that was scary AF during turbulence but I'd still hop on it because I cruise in a chopper in the LA county mountains on a humid day.
This is extraordinarily painful for everyone who knew someone who died. It's the families and friends that suffer, and they lost the most and they never recover. You can't say he didn't have a wonderful life, but they died much too young.
Kobe Bryant's helicopter lacked recommended safety features the FAA refuses to require
Due to an ongoing war on regulation, Kobe Bryant's helicopter lacked safety tech that the NTSB has long called for
One of the central premises of Donald Trump's great reign of error is that the Federal government over-regulates the private sector, and in the process strangles innovation, profits and economic expansion.
And so, he has fashioned himself as the invincible dragon slayer for private enterprise in his dark suit with red silk satin power tie. By going after agencies like the EPA, the National Weather Service and the USDA on a search and destroy mission he takes aim at what is really basic science in the public interest so as to unshackle free enterprise from any broader societal obligation.
In the process, this Trump multi-front assault, so much broader than what he was impeached for, has been fully embraced by the now all-powerful markets and their profiteers. These Trump cheerleaders are increasingly inebriated from their ever upward stock market trajectory they have lost sufficient oxygen flow to their brains and so now believe their own press-released propaganda.
The Trump "way-back" time machine has taken us back to the late 19th and earliest 20th century America, just before Upton Sinclair's "The Jungle" graphically alerted the public to the unfettered abuses of unchecked market capitalism in the nation's slaughter houses.

In the post-crash press conference, Jennifer Homendy, with the National Transportation Safety Board, disclosed the helicopter wasn't equipped with a terrain alert warning system (TAWS), which alerts pilots when their aircraft has gotten too close to the ground.
Incredibly, as far back as March of 2006 the National Transportation Safety Board had called on the FAA to require all U.S. flagged turbine-powered helicopters that flew at least a half-dozen people to be equipped with the TAWS system.
That initial request from the NTSB was in response to their investigation of a 2006 Gulf of Mexico crash that left ten people dead.
But here's the real takeaway: Letting big business run the show because they buy off everybody is ultimately bad for business.
