...he was arrested for not disclosing info upon arrest..theft..and family violence..she said she was in a bad place and I know Icey will give me shit but I'm sorry...why the fuck do people choose drugs and alcohol when they are in a bad place? How the fuck. are you supposed to even comprehend how people will hang with druggies when they are in a bad place like that concept is so foreign to me it doesn't make sense

People choose self destructive things coz they help them escape from themselves. They do it to forget and to not feel.
And the thing is, when you love someone you tend to overlook things or at least tolerate them.
Its hard. I've seen people I care about go through withdrawal symptoms....have bad come downs. The feeling of being helpless to help them and watching them ruin their lives is crippling. There's no positive advice to give on this. Often times, there's no happy ending with hard drugs.
