Not sure if it is still on Netflix but there was a documentary called Narco Cultura that was about Mexican Cartel guys paying certain bands to write songs from them. They were scumbag drug lords but it was an interesting doc.

Yeah the narco corridos are interesting. Its like modern day troubadors, these gangsters pay bands to write songs praising them. They're banned on radio stations and clubs nowadays. But bands still do it for the money and the songs are usually better sounding than their mainstream works.
