If someone is drinking or using, then they have decided that they want dissociation instead of mindfulness.
If they have opted for Recovery, then they still want dissociation. Its just that there are consequences to drinking and using. Job loss, spouse leaves, kids taken away, health problems. So they want Recovery because that helps them to use something like religiosity to dissociate, instead of drinking and using.
So in the organization I am building we don't deal with anyone unless they are clearly committed to mindfulness.
We do not deal with people who support drugs, alcohol, recovery, psychotherapy, motivationalism, popular Christianity, or psychiatric medications.
