FOSTA Liability

whodey
Fat bastard that can afford to fuck hot strippers
Craigslist just completely shut down their entire personals section over the recently passed FOSTA. Should we be worried about the future of TUSCL as a result of this asinine legislation?

https://www.axios.com/craigslist-pulls-p…

Here is Craigslist's statement about the issue.

US Congress just passed HR 1865, "FOSTA", seeking to subject websites to criminal and civil liability when third parties (users) misuse online personals unlawfully.

Any tool or service can be misused. We can't take such risk without jeopardizing all our other services, so we are regretfully taking craigslist personals offline. Hopefully we can bring them back some day.

To the millions of spouses, partners, and couples who met through craigslist, we wish you every happiness!

    Should we be worried?

In the sense that we're all going to jail? No, we haven't done anything wrong.

In the sense that we're going to lose all of our favorite websites? Yeah, probably.

Wait, doesn't the bill still need to be signed by the President to become law?

Will the Monger-in-Chief step up and save us from this travesty by vetoing it?

There will be more dancers at strip clubs.

They should just move the ads to the merchandise section.

Hours after FOSTA Passes, Reddit Bans "Escorts" and "Sugar Daddy" Communities

    https://reason.com/blog/2018/03/22/reddi…

So far, four subreddits related to sex have banned: Escorts, Male Escorts, Hookers, and SugarDaddy.

Juice must be really upset about the Male Escorts subreddit being band.

SA is still up, but they knew this was coming down the pipe. A couple months back they had an acknowledgement that every member had to agree in order to continue using the site. It was something along the lines of SA was not to be used for prostitution or solely buying sex.

SA also censors what you write....They told me my language was used in pay for sex and made me change my description....

Though I have seen a few profiles that I wonder how they got them accepted....

Given that it’s targeting only one channel, and not all the *other* channels which can be misused, and goes against years of First Amendment precedent protecting conveyers of others’ speech, it won’t surprise me to see that one challenged.

The article doesn’t really explain the provisions of the bill. But if it is having this much of a chilling effect on speech, then a successful first amendment challenge seems likely.

That's right. As I recall you agree not to mention anything related to pay-per-meet. They're big enough to hire some good lawyers. My guess is that SA will survive and market themselves as an online dating site.

Reddit "SugarLifestyle" is still up today.

After all these website closures, I assume the politicians are walking around with their chests all puffed out w.r.t. the thousands of traffic victims they supposedly saved but seem to never be able to find in terms of anywhere near those #s

As I've said before, these guys (politicians) don't care about anyone's ability to access purchased pussy... except their own.

"Will the Monger-in-Chief step up and save us from this travesty by vetoing it?"

The vote was passed with a veto-proof majority, so Trump can't stop it even if he wants to.

My theory is that some politicians secretly want to stop patronizing sex workers. So passing this law is the metaphorical equivalent of nailing the cookie jar shut to avoid cheating on your diet.
