This rate of homicides is a bit high. Though this does not contradict the supposedly good unemployment numbers, it does give one cause to question.
Recent news says local construction, which had been on a binge, is slowing down, as are local new car sales.
Over building of office space was the big factor in the '80's Texas S and L crisis and associated recession.
New car sales tanking were one of the more dramatic effects of the dot com bust.
Local retail store and restaurant closures are being noted.
