When he played the Super Bowl, he was told It was going to be raining during his show and asked what he wanted to do(the promoters seeing if he wanted to lip sync rather that play his electric guitar in the rain), he said "can you make it rain harder". He then picked up his guitar and went on stage heedless of getting wet or shocked from his guitar proceeding to his live show in the "Purple Rain" with the crowd singing along at the end.
It was said He always did his shows to the best of his ability and never "phoned in a performance"
I had enormous respect for him not only for his music, which was very original, also because he controlled his career refusing to knuckle to the big wigs.
