I've been putting it off. Is it better than 8.1

The more I read the new EULA the more I believe I need to take on the learning curve and put Redhat or another Linux variant on my machine. Microsoft wants to upload changes in their software on your machine at any time, without your permission when you download the new consumer version 10. WTF? That is scary to me
