I listen and think about what it is about Ringo's singing in his other post Beatles work which rubs me the wrong way. It is not his voice, that is okay. It is his phrasing and just his general style. I've always seen his recordings as novelty songs, and I don't care for that.

Okay, well here it sounds to me that they are driving him along with piano comping. Then they can pot that down in the final mix and add all sorts of other stuff right on top of him.

This is not usually how lead vocals are handled. And I think his pitching is a bit weak as a result of it too, having to follow the piano's fixed tuning.

So the way this comes out is entirely a function of the order in which the tracks were laid down, plus what exactly was being listened to when each track was laid down.

It would not come out this way if it were done in real time.

I listen to this and I now see how much similarity there is to the George Harrison music of the same era, too tied to the recording studio.
