"Nigger" is a racist insult when it is used as one. When black people call each other "nigger", it is with a sense of irony and humor. When a slow-witted white bigot calls a black person a "nigger", it is meant as a demeaning insult and should be taken as such.

Compare how we refer to ourselves as "PL's". We find it amusing, but we would not find it so amusing if an outsider were to call us pathetic losers.
