Happened to see a new review of this place in Houston, yesterday. It sounds gross, but it is clearly right out there as to what they do. It is a Korean Hostess Bar.
Where I live there have been Hostess Bars, usually Korean, but also one Japanese and some Vietnamese. Often they won't even let white guys in so you can't see what is going on. Really, what I mean is they won't let you scope out the women.
There was one running a long time in Sunnyvale, on the El Camino just North of Mary ( site of former Hip Hugger strip club and also previously my first AMP, Vietnamese )
There was lots of attention drawn to it because it came out that a Sunnyvale Police Officer was involved with them and with the Korean Mafia, giving them tips offs as to when busts would occur, and also doing some extremely despicable things which I will not even mention. It only took a jury 3 hours to convict him.
Some of these Hostess Bars actually did employ young dolled up hotties, good enough to be working in the Viet Coffee Shops, where they don't do anything except parade around in high heels and mini-dresses and serve coffee and tea. And oh yes, they flirt with me. But these kinds of hostess bars with the young girls, they are usually the ones that won't even let white guys get in the front door.
But for the most part, Hostess Bars are a minor factor in South Bay. I guess you could say that Strip Clubs are a minor factor too, as they are all strictly no touching and we don't even have very many of them per capita. So what we have instead are AMPs and AAMPs.
Once I did go in and order a drink and scope out a Korean Hostess Bar, decades ago. Smoking was an issue.
In the AMPs, 25 years ago it was sometimes an issue. But now because of the clean indoor air laws, it is non-existent.
Also, I've seen the statistics. The smoking rate for Asian women is lower than for any other demographic group. This holds true but for two blatant exceptions, the Korean AAMP RA's, and the Waitresses and Women Customers at SJ's Viet Coffee Shops. If you took these two groups out, at this point I would say that the rate is just about zero.
I tried to look this Jia's Lounge up on Rubmaps. That usually only lists MP's, which this is not. But just in case it was listed, and so I could see what other people say about it, I looked. I looked by current name, old name, and street. Not listed. But Houston does have over two hundred listings, and most of them are Asian.
Just for those local people who might be interested, one SJ Viet AMP, very highly rated, has just vanished from RubMaps. As I have seen, when a place gets closed, RubMaps does not delist it. They just annotate that it is closed and let it stay up for quite some time. So I am going to try and call them and one of their girls in particular on the house phone today. Nowadays the house phone will probably be the manager's cell phone anyway. See what I can find out.

SJG, as usual, a fascinating analysis of whatever the hell you are talking about. But I gotta be honest. I prefer Mexican bar table dancing with Asian girls in purple dresses who are soaking wet from just having washed my car. I don't guess you can identify with my obsession. Or can you?
