Pre-TUSCL Guides

Prior to TUSCL, how did you determine which clubs to visit? Accidental, newspaper ads, yellow pages, tips from coworkers, bellmen, or cab drivers?? In my case, from 80's-early 90's was mainly stumbling upon it, with a few coworker word of mouth, or sports/entertainment section. From 1992 on, Exotic Dance Directory, and later Gentlemen Club Guide came in handy, but they had their limitations. So far TUSCL is tops, with zbone also good if you're going to LA area.

Shadowcat, long ago it used to be pretty standard business procedure to take customers and out-of-town visitors to strip clubs for entertainment. That's how I started the habit, other people taking me when I was out of town on business. I never went alone until I was quite a bit older. Now it's the only way I go.

Mostly just word of mouth. If I was out of town, sometimes I would actually hear an ad on the radio, and oddly enough, that would work. Of course, I always travel with the most recent Rand McNally road atlas. One time, while out of town, I had the dumb luck to stumble upon one, although that one sucked. Eventually, I saw an Exotic Dancer guide at the local porn shop and got that, and that made things easier. Now TUSCL makes it too easy.

Right after I began clubbing 12 years ago, I picked up the Exotic Dancer directory, and went to every one of the 30 and some odd Detroit clubs listed. I've never returned to about 30 of them. Soon after that, ASSC got going, and I was able to screen out places better.

When I used to travel on business I was often met by someone local from our company, and they often suggested going to a strip club that they knew. If I was traveling alone I'd sometimes look in the Yellow Pages or go to an adult bookstore - many carried papers that advertised local clubs. But usually if I was alone and didn't see a club nearby the hotel I'd do something else. I didn't do clubs all that often until I got older and had more money.

Originally it was hit or miss, trying a place out myself or taking a recommendation from a co-worker. If I was on the road, it was following a recommendation from a conceirge, bell hop, or cab driver.

Now, I do my homework on TUSCL, both for local and on the road entertainment options.

My first few visits were to clubs near where I work. On a trip to Texas I used the yellow pages to find clubs, but found that it was a very hit and miss way to do it. I went into some REALLY bad clubs. When I got back I looked on the net for discussions and I think I found Grimace, but can't remember how. I wrote a review for all the clubs I'd visited (about a dozen), just so others wouldn't have to suffer the yellow pages method.
