William Holmes, 22, of the 100 block of Hamilton St., had reportedly been at the Just Enough Lounge, and a fight broke out early Friday morning when club officials discovered he and others accompanying him allegedly refused to pay their bill and tried to keep the patrons from leaving the building, according to a Bridgeport police report.
Holmes had reportedly “gotten five dances†from a dancer at the club and owed her money. The doorman, who witnessed this, tried to assist her in getting the money, but the suspect, later identified as Holmes, and two friends allegedly pushed their way out the door.
When the doorman pursued the suspects, Holmes displayed a gun in his waistband, then allegedly drew the black semiautomatic gun and pointed the weapon at the doorman.
Holmes and the others went to the club's parking lot and sat on the back of a vehicle trying to block the license plate from being viewed, according to police.
The armed man positioned himself behind the same vehicle and pointed the firearm a second time at the doorman and others standing outside the Boro Line Road bar.
The doorman told police that he and fellow employees and a customer fled for a safety. When people in the lot took cover behind parked cars, the suspects drove out of the area.
“This is the first time we've had any trouble like that up there,†said Bridgeport police Sgt. John Cane.
Witnesses described the suspects as two black men and a black woman, who fled the lot in a silver Chevy sedan. The gunman was believed to be in his 20s, medium height, wearing blue jeans and a dark colored sweatshirt. Area police departments were alerted of the incident.
A short time later, Norristown police reported stopping a car fitting the description at Main and Dekalb streets in Norristown. Two men and a woman were inside, according to the report. Continued...
Police seized two handguns that were recovered — a black Taurus semi automatic .45 caliber pistol and a silver Taurus .357 revolver — both fully loaded.
“We put out an alert, and Norristown police got them,†Cane said. “It could have been a very serious situation.â€
Bridgeport officers transported the victim and another witness to the scene of the vehicle stop, and they positively identified Holmes as the one who wielded the weapon at the club.
He was taken into custody at 1:09 a.m. and charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, terroristic threats and a firearm offense.
Holmes was released on bail pending a preliminary hearing scheduled for March 5. The role his friend's played in the incident is still under investigation.
