Another Boring Thread About Oil From farmerart

I just came across this feature about Canada's oil sands companies most recent public relations flurry. It will be directed at you Americans. I am curious as to how effective this campaign might be with Americans.

This is the site of Canada's largest newspaper; I am sure that the site is safe.

Hint: there is one photo of a drop-dead gorgeous aboriginal Canadian wearing a hard hat. TOO SEXY for farmerart!!

I think a lot of Americans (myself included, sometimes) talk a good game about sustainable resources, avoiding "conflict" resources (oil, diamonds, etc.), but, when push comes to shove, a lot of Americans (myself included) shop solely for price.

Most democrat congress members are on the payroll of middle east leaders, and therefore, they feel that any oil produced in the western hemisphere is "blood oil" as natives are raped and killed to get it, and lands soiled forever so that evil republicans can get rich.

Gas prices are so expensive that next time I fill up I am going to take my dick out and start jacking off. You know why? Because when I spend that much money, I'm used to cumming. You guys should try it, next time you're on E you'll be happy.

I'm glad we get Canadian oil, but I'm not at all sure it's unethical to buy oil from Iran or Saudi Arabia, even if their governments are repulsive. Oil is, after all, fungible, and so if we don't buy Iran's oil, China or some other country will. Also, doesn't it make sense to buy Iranian oil, thereby depleting its reserves, and keep US reserves intact?

    Wow...now *that's* a whopper of a lie if I've ever seen one...whew...

As for oil sand-derived oil, it's an especially dirty & expensive way to get oil for sure, but I doubt that many Americans will care where it's derived from, since it's coming from our dear friends to the north in Canada. There are & will be some exceptions though, and Canada doesn't have much choice in producing from oil sands or not, since that's unfortunately where a HUGE amount of their remaining oil reserves are located.

Too little oil in the world for people to worry about whether the source is ethical or not. If the cost of being ethical came down then people might be willing to do it.

Water is the next oil. I was standing by my hotel window a week ago looking out on Dubai, and thinking in 100 years or so when the oil is gone, all those fancy building are going to be half buried in sand. The 87% of the population there now that is from other countries will be back home or in some other boomtown. And the locals will be riding camels. Meanwhile, In the US and Canada, we will be in better shape. We have water, temperate climate (except where farmerart is right now), fertile soil, and other resources. Between now and then is going to be rough sledding.

It all seems a little smug anyway. The oil industry implying they are motivated by ethics over here versus all those bad Middle Eastern dudes? Bring in the hippie tree-huggers (MisterGay?) and I'm sure they'll shoot that argument down pretty quickly.

One thing about demonizing the oil industry in America always amuses me: referring to it as "Big Oil." The intent of that ridiculous name is to engender resentment against the oil industry, of course. But, can anyone imagine "small oil?" The job of exploring, digging, extracting, transporting, and refining is a huge job. Any company that can do those things MUST employ very many workers, and MUST have billions of dollars invested in their equipment.

I'd buy ethical oil, but when you pull your car up to a pump at a random gas station, how do you know where the oil came from that made the fuel you are pumping?

The best way to find oil is to buy some land in the boonies, go hunting and be a bad shot. Worked for Jed Clampett!!!!!!!!!!

LOL...the USA has NEVER been able to extract enough oil to come anywhere near the level of demand here in the USA. The more will drill for oil, the faster our rapidly dwindling resources will be exhausted.
