Speaking of "equipment failure", has anyone noticed a problem when taking blood pressure medication? Not being a doctor, it seems like that could be a problem.

I hadn't when I was on blood pressure medication. I am starting to take it again. My doctor today did say there can be some problems with certain medications. Hopefully, it won't be a problem. LOL

There was a comedian who had a bit about having that exact experience, and joked about spiking his daughter's boyfriend's food or drink with blood pressure medication. The comedian died recently (within the last year or two) - I'll re-post with his name if I think of it. I was on medication a few years ago and things took a bit longer to activate than otherwise.

Perhaps a different med would do the trick. Pun intended.

BP medicine can contribute to "equipment not fully deployed" syndrome.

Yes, I think the hydraulics of a boner requires decent pressure. Anything reducing that - lack of blood flow, lack of blood retention (what Viagra addresses), poor ventricular output, vessel dilation (e.g., due to alcohol), compromised libido (e.g., from anti-depressants/fatigue/stress), and I suppose, medicine that reduced blood pressure, can theoretically do a number on one's turgidity.

I read eating a lot more potassium, ie potatoes, bananas, etc. would lower blood pressure along with drinking more water. My blood pressure is usually very good though. I don't like taking any medication for anything. I do drink a 50/50 mix of pomegranate juice and blueberry juice (to make it taste better) which amounts to just a big gulp or two in the bottom of a glass. I read the pomegranate juice lowered LDL cholesterol and removed plaque or buildup in the arteries in some studies. If it's natural and good for my blood flow, I'll drink it.

what type of blood pressure medication is it? It's known that diuretics (or water pills, like hydrochlorothiazide) and beta-blockers (like Atenolol) can cause erection problems

Oh, Great. I already have a problem due to being diebetic, and I just started taking BP medication. I haven't noticed a difference yet, though. My BP is just slightly elevated (about 140/87) so the meds I am taking are pretty mild.

clubber, bless his soul, dragged this topic out of a thread I posted on another topic. My doctor put me on BP med two years ago (when I turned 60). My BP then was almost exactly as that of runnoft, not any where near a danger level but a risk factor to be dealt with because of my age and weight. I take a 2mg dose of Coversyl daily. No erection problems to report because of the BP med. Dr. Joanne says she will gladly write me a Cialis chit if it becomes necessary.

fa, Mine was very elevated last year when I got to the hospital after a bike crash. They started me on 50mg of whatever it is I take. When I got home to my doc, he left it at that. My BP was always high "normal" and I think it would be there without meds. I'll talk to him and see what he says about something different. It isn't an all the time issue, but sometimes is bad enough. :)

Since the topic came up, I had to do some research on my meds. I have been taking 5MGs of Amlodpine daily for over 20 years. A Google search for side effects said that it rarely has any effect on ED. The biggest factor for me when it comes to ED was my wife. So I got rid of her.

I take BP meds Diovan HCT and Amolodpine 5mg. No effect on erectile function. I was taking Lexapro 2004-2008. I found it was the cause of some DE (took me long time to get off) I was having and this prob went away once I dropped it. AntiDepressants can cause DE, but I have found SC's and Strippers are very effective stress relief. Various stress factors can cause ED one being a bitchy unattractive wife. If taking Viagra, try to take an hour before on an empty stomach. It may kick in in the first 20 minutes. Stay away from alcohol if you want the Viagra to be effective. If new to it simply take a dose and go to SC and you will find out soon enough if its working. Many strippers believe if a guy is on Viagra it increases Penis Size and thats why they will ask a guy this. So if they ask you this just say yes and watch them smile......

I can testify to what samsung1 said: "beta-blockers (like Atenolol)" and which is often prescribed as a BP med, can mess with Mr Happy (making him Mr Not-So-Happy).
