NEW YORK —A day after receiving a $434-million grant from the United States to alleviate poverty and stamp out corruption in the Philippines, President Aquino on Friday called on the United Nations to use Filipino-style people power to push for the development of the world's poor countries. Mr. Aquino said there was a need to focus on cooperation to achieve the UN Millennium Development Goals that call for reducing poverty and hunger, better health services and educational systems, among others, particularly in the Third World.
