Football Coach Shot, Struggling to Live
HOUSTON - A beloved and respected Houston-area football coach is fighting for his life after he was shot during a carjacking attempt.
Former students and staff at Aldine Senior High School gathered on Sunday evening to offer a prayer of support to head varsity football coach Lionell Crawford.
Police continue to search for the shooting supect.
Players on the Aldine football team are preparing to return to the practice field without Crawford, 41, as school administrators decide who to appoint as an interim head coach until Crawford returns.
Crawford was shot at approximately 11:30 p.m. Friday, but was able to drive to a north Houston fuel station. Within minutes, police and an ambulance service arrived to help Crawford.
After Crawford was taken to Ben Taub General Hospital, he was place in the intensive care unit, but has since been upgraded to stable condition.
HOUSTON - An investigation has revealed a new detail in the shooting of a Houston-area football coach.
Investigators previously said Lionell Crawford, 41, was shot in an
attempted carjacking as he was leaving a motel in north Houston.
A spokeswoman for HPD says there was no carjacking, attempted or otherwise.
What is known is that the head varsity football coach of Aldine Senior High School was shot on Friday around 11:30 p.m. off Rankin Road.
Police are looking for the person who shot him.
Crawford was taken to Ben Taub Hospital and placed in the intensive are
unit, but is now listed in stable condition.
