Strip club files oil spill compensation claim

A New Orleans strip club has filed a compensation claim against BP over the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.

The owners of Mimosa Dancing Girls, located on the edge of Louisiana's largest city, filed a claim because fisherman who frequent the club can no longer afford to come after a ban imposed on the industry following the spill, the Guardian newspaper reports.

The oil giant has set up 33 field offices in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida since the Deepwater Horizon oil rig exploded in late April.

The majority of the 1500 daily claims per day are from people in the fishing industry, but at BP's New Orleans claims centre, the bulk of the claims were no longer fisherman.

Restaurant wait staff, dock workers, plumbers electricians as well as strip club owners have put forward claims.

BP said it has already received 64,000 compensation claims and paid out $119 million to Gulf Coast residents.

BP said it would not refuse claims where proper documentation was provided for compensation.

I can't seem to find this strip club on tuscl...must be either new or a dive. Or maybe the name is the corporation's name but not the same name as the strip club. Anyone familiar with the NOLA area know what specific club this was talking about?

I think this might be a scam by the person/s filing the claim. Damn near every newspaper printed the exact same story but I and others have done searches and could not find them.

sinclair. A boycott, while sounding admirable, will not hurt BP. BP only owns 1 out of 9 stations carrying the name. It is the independent owners and employees that will suffer.

The thing about boycotting BP is that it's not just BP gas stations that need to be boycotted...it's ARCO gas stations, all Castrol brand products, and ampm convenience stores, which are all owned by BP.

BP stock has declined nearly 50% this year. This used to be considered a safe investment and was promoted a lot by Cramer (I know he has made mistakes before but he is still watched on tv by many people).

Stock prices in Nalco and Clean Harbors have increased because of Spill Cleanup Roles. Nalco makes the chemicals BP is using for water treatment (they are still down 13% for the year) and Clean Harbors is a provider of environmental and industrial services and that stock is up 14% for the year.
