"MONTREAL — Police fear an 'imminent reply' to the gangland-style shooting that killed two people and injured two others in Old Montreal last month, and their concern has led to the temporary closing of a downtown strip club believed to be partly owned by an influential street gang member with ties to the Mafia.

An emergency hearing held before the provincial liquor board this week ended in the temporary suspension of the Temptation Club's licence because of police concerns for public safety."

A Montreal strip club has been closed, and had its liquor license pulled, at the request of the police force.

Police say Club Temptation, on Ste. Catherine at Mansfield, was a hangout for street gang members, and officers were worried the club would become the scene of a deadly shootout.

The club is owned by Richard Goodridge, who reportedly co-founded a gang called The 67 ten years ago with Ducarme Joseph."

"Last month Joseph escaped an attempt on his life that left two men dead, and injured two more, and police are worried that Joseph's associates would seek revenge by attacking people at Club Temptation.

So, to avoid a potential target, police asked the Alcohol and Gambling Board to immediately suspend the club's license.

Police have done this nine times since 2002, and the suspension is followed by a hearing with the Board, police, and the bar owner."

This is the former Chateau du Sexe in downtown Montreal. The few times that I've been there I never saw any gang activity, but I haven't been there since the recent name change.

MisterGuy finally posted something-kudos.

I don't know about about the land of back bacon and tuks, but in the colonies, if gang activity caused that kind of problem, there'd be a backwards knee jerk reaction resulting in clubs in that city being regulated to death. Like when Clinton said, post the 1995 OK City bombing, that we need to ban high capacity magazines (what high capacity magazines has to do with bombs and bomb making is beyond me).

Anyway, back in 1997, Houston passed a draconian anti strip club ordinance. Soon after, the city found out that it cost a lot of money to enforce the ordinance, but it also found out that the city could make money by raiding the illegal gambling dens, and there's lots of those places.

You know, I had free tickets to see the Expos, and I never got around to using them. I was surprised that the closure of the above club was just temporary...I guess maybe until they catch the gang bangers that are causing trouble?

The downtown Montreal strip clubs have already been regulated somewhat. Gone are the days of heavy grinding action everywhere, and "extra" fun? Forget it...
