Staying Safe and Smart around Strip Clubs

You can unfriend me, unfollow me, and unlike me; but you cannot unlick my butthole
Two recent reviews of Miami area clubs specifically mentioned a ghetto night crowd or specific thug characters after dark.
I can't remember any time that I felt particularly unsafe in or around a strip club. Part of that is that I'm pretty good at sensing the energy (not being metaphysical, you can pick up on vibes- if somebody is intending or expecting trouble), part is knowing how to spot trouble before it erupts (colors, tats, tags, suspicious bulges, plainclothes cops), and the rest is luck.
I remember a specific time in New Orleans, where I closed Rick's Cabaret. It was all the more memorable because I had just finished hosting a dinner next door at Arnaud's. The guests were having so much fun that the client asked not to have the award ceremony at that dinner, but to postpone it until lunch of the next day's meeting. Then they insisted that I join them at Rick's for the afterparty. The door girl had no problem accepting the box full of trophies and plaques when I walked in. Several hours later the lights are on and a dickhead bouncer is refusing to get or let me get my stuff from behind the counter. As soon as he looked away, I leapt the counter and skedaddled out the door. I was so fucking relieved it was all still there. Outside the door, it was zero visibility. The French Quarter is very well lit, but there was some of the thickest fog I'd ever seen. Apart from remembering every horror movie and every ghost story I'd heard about New Orleans, the walk back to my car was pretty uneventful. Shootings in the FQ did not become a regular event until 2015 or so.
The other time I would have expected trouble was when I was the sole white guy in a black club on the west bank near New Orleans. I didn't know it was a black club until I walked in. Once I walked in, I wasn't going to leave unless asked. I got some funny looks, I got some hard looks, but I got no threatening looks. Every girl there was thick or super-thick, except for one. She claimed to have been a triathlete, and I would have believed it. The only reason she wasn't a spinner is that she was 5'10". She was so happy to have a white boy there, since her brothers were into thicker sisters. After about an hour of alternating dances and conversation, she had to move on. Once she did, I felt it was time for me to do the same.
More recently, in Scarletts Fort Myers before it became Vixens, there was a different vibe than I had ever felt in there. It was a lot of unfamiliar faces, a lot of guys with their WAGs, a lot of making it rain, and a lot scowls and guys looking over their shoulder. I just couldn't get comfortable enough to relax and enjoy myself, so I left. They had their first 2 AMer later that evening

Per the 2am TUSCL-threads it seems often times shit that goes down in SCs is a beef that breaks-out b/w specific parties – in the big-picture when it comes to SCs “discretion is the better part of valor” given one does not know what kinda character(s) one is dealing with.
I can recall 2 instances where it could have gone wrong:
1) mid-2000s when I lived/SCed in Dallas – I would hit a BYOB dive called Pandora’s – being BYOB it closed late (past 2am) and it being a dive it attracted a fair-amount of lowlifes – one time I was taking a dancer to the lap-dance area; I was in front of her and I was trying to get to the back of the LD-area – there was a girl bent-over talking to some Latin (born in U.S.) gangbanger type dude – I was gently-tapping the girl on the hip so I could get by – the dude looks at me w/ a grown in his face and tells me “the word is excuse me”; as in I should have asked her to excuse me as I was trying to pass by – by tapping her on the hip I was just trying to get her attention – anyway he was there w/ about a dozen lowlife gangbanger looking thugs – I just looked at him and kept walking but if I would have said something back it could have led to something worse – these dudes looked like the real-deal gangbangers and not wannabees
2) second incident was in Miami about 3 or 4 years ago – I was at a rundown black-dive – I had finished my dances w/ a thick yellowbone I had known for a while and would always get dances from – I’m sitting sideways at the bar and she’s standing in front of me – all of a sudden some dark-skinned black-guy stands on the other side of her and is looking at her funny and saying something I couldn’t understand – all of a sudden he grabs her arm forcefully and tries to drag her to the ground – I instinctively stood-up (w/o really thinking about it) and pushed him away – it all happened so fast and I acted out of reflex b/c I thought she was getting assaulted – anyway I push him off and he gets in my face and starts yapping something like “I’ll whoop your ass whiteboy blah blah blah” but I stood my ground b/c it was too-late to back down at this point – the dance-counter came running over and yelled at my dancer “MOCHA CONTROL YOUR MAN” – apparently it was her BF that had been sitting in the club getting drunk and acted like a typical drunk stripper-BF I suppose – the next time I saw the dancer we were talking about the incident and she nonchalantly tells me “yeah I was worried he (her BF) was going to come back in the club that night b/c he carries a machete in his car” – well damn I thought to myself
Given SCs are not filled w/ the best society has to offer I guess one should never fully let their guard down even if a beef doesn't happen w/ someone else - in certain clubs in certain areas one needs to at least be careful as they go to/from the club to their car especially at night.
