Just got back from 8 days of sun and fun in Mazatlan. The days were great but the nights were magnifico. From what I could gather there are three strip clubs in Mazatlan. If you stay in the golden zone you can take the open air cabs called pulmonarias to any one of the clubs for 50-70 pesos. Always ask how much "Cuanto Es" before you go and bargain with them. There will be many available when you leave the club. La Botana which is closest to the golden zone and caters to its touristas. Hipocampo pronounced Ipocampo which is just 5 or 6 blocks east of the fisherman's monument on the malecon. This club is more for locals and the adventurous tourist. I went twice. Finally my favorite Terrandas which is close to Hipocampo and basically caters to the same afficiandos. If you visit Mazatlan this is the place I would recommend. I also visited this club twice.

La Botana - More of a US style club. There was an 80 peso cover charge the night I went. Dancers ranged from 6-9 mostly in the 7-8 area. There were a few larger dancers but not too big as in some latina clubs in the US. Suprisingly there were quite a few with breast enlargements. They would dance on the stage and then you would tell one of the waiters- floormen which girl you wanted to give you a table dance. The dances were 100 pesos and you paid the floorman. Nude two way contact etc. Always an upsell for extras in the private room. Didn't try that as I had already sampled the other two clubs and preferred the offerings there. Very clean upscale and a great club. Would recommend for those that want a place to hang, drink somewhat cheaply and have pretty good dances.

Hipocampo - The first club I visited on recommendation of the bellman at my hotel. Lots of locals I may have been the only tourist. 30 peso cover charge. After the first night I no longer pay any cover charge. It is very dark inside so let your eyes adjust. Beer costs 20 pesos, drinks a little more. So yes an ice cold Pacifico is less than $2. Large stage in the middle with at least 6 poles, a trapeze bar, and gymnastic rings. Yes the dancers are up there swinging all night. Dancers ranged from 5-9 some of the larger types were present. That being said there is a great selection of 7-8's available. All body types slim to plush. Enhanced and natural. The girls would all be on stage at once and dance without disrobing. It took me a couple of songs to figure out what was going on. Again you tell the floorman of which there are many which girl you want to come dance for you and pay him after the dance. Dances are 60 pesos just a little less than $5. Bring pesos my friends they will go a long way and you don't get ripped off on the exchange. Depending on the dancer your dance will be topless or nude. Either way most are full contact two way touching, tits in your mouth, stick shifting etc. Yes there are extras. The first dancer I picked who by the way was gorgeous and gave a great dance spoke a little bit of English and gave me the rundown. There are private couch rooms along the back wall. Real doors with locks. You pay 200 pesos for the house there is a guy sitting at a table collecting the money and handing out condoms. 500 pesos for the girl paid to her. The catch is it is for three songs. Most of the songs are latin so they last 5 minutes or longer. Plus the dj encouraging everyone in between songs it ends up being about 20-30 minutes for your 700 pesos a little over $50. Passed on the first go round as I wanted to check out the other dancers. Had dances from at least 6 others all were good two way contact some allowing alot more than others. Finally took the dive with the original dancer. First dance was the warmup lots of teasing, nibbling and blowing in the ear, two way touching etc. Second dance the condom goes on great bj etc. You can guess what the third dance was as things escalated. A great night for around $100 which included transportation. Note there are signs that say no smoking but smoking is allowed. I went back a few nights later.

Terrandas - In the same area as Hipocampo mostly locals but noticed a few more notre americanos here. Very lively club the patrons are having a great time. Compadres are buying dances for each other etc. The first night there was no cover charge the next time it was 30 pesos. I went later the second night so maybe that is why. This place is dark inside let your eyes adjust. Large stage with poles against one wall. Dancers ranged from 6-9 with most being 7 or better. Lots of selection never less than 20 dancers at any time. Early in the evening the dancers do 2 dances on stage. The first one clothed and the next one taking their costume off until naked. On both nights I went one dancer gave the best pole performance of any I have ever seen. Later in the night they all just get on stage if they are not giving table dances and dance fully clothed until someone picks them for a dance. Beer was 25 pesos and drinks a little more. Prices are posted on the walls. Same deal as before you pick out a dancer tell the floorman he brings her to you and you pay him 60 pesos. Dances are fully nude two way contact and just plain fun. They also have private locked rooms with basically the same set up as Hipocampo. 200 pesos for the house but here the dancers negotiate their own rates. I was quoted anywhere from 400 pesos to 600 pesos for fs. You can also get bj's for a lesser rate. Everything is negotiable when it came to extras. Lets just say I met a dancer here who gave the most sensous table dances I have ever had and was even better in the private room. Again signs saying no smoking but people were smoking. If I were to recommend one club to visit while in Mazatlan this would be it. The only negative would be that sometimes they play the music too loud.

Massage parlors - There are two in the area around Terrandas and Hipocampo. My pulmonaria driver took me to one to show me what they were about its name started with a T but I forget the rest of it. It was a clean place with a guard at the front door. Once they buzz you in prices are posted on the wall. 800 pesos for 1 hour, massage, shower, condom and sex. They bring out about 10-12 girls for you to choose from. Most were hot but I had just finished up at Terrandas and was just doing research so I didn't test the waters so to speak. If you only want to get laid its probably a good option. The other place is called La Fonda and according to the driver is basically the same as this place.

Safety - I never felt in danger at any time. I wouldn't walk to the clubs except for La Botana which is on the main road along the boardwalk. Take the open air taxis they drop you off right at the door and there is always one waiting when you are done. Inside the clubs there are plenty of floormen around and suprisingly I didn't see any thug element. The locals were having fun enjoying themselves and the dancers.

Language - At all three clubs my limited Spanish was ok. They have floor people who speak English and most of the dancers can speak a little English. If you have a question they don't understand they will find someone who does.

Exchange - It is much easier to use pesos whenever possible. If you run out use the atm's that are at the banks. You get the real exchange rate and the service charge is minimal.

Overview - I was pleasantly surprised about my strip club experience in Mazatlan. Basically if you want a US mid-grade club go to La Botana. If you want a little more go to Hipcampo and Terrandas. They are in older buildings but are clean and safe. They all have bathroom attendants. Most of the drivers will know where they are. I never got too baracho 'drunk' so I don't know if you would get taken advantage of if you did. I always went solo and had a great time. You will have time to go to the tourist places Joes Oyster Bar, Valentinos etc. The strip clubs are open late and are a well a visit.

Greg, Great article. Brought back great memories of my visits to Mazatlan. This is what this section of TUSCL should be about.

Yeah. Nice article. Did they have any blondes? When I browse thru the Spanish language channels on TV I always see some hot blondes. But my town is now about one third Hispanic and I have yet to see a blonde.

Definitely a step or two up the SC ladder from the 5 in Van, greg. And many planets away from winter life in an exploration camp in Canada's north!

Interesting coordinates, shadowcat. Mazatlan is less than one degree latitude north of the Tropic of Cancer. (This ill-educated old oilman DOES know how to decipher geographical coordinates.) Just had a thought - that angle (23 degrees) is the sharpest angle we can currently make when going horizontal drilling a well. Wonder why? Another thought, shadowcat. What kind of keyboard do you have that allows you to enter the symbol for 'degree'? Don't have it on any of the machines here in camp.

Jackmd - On the Sea of Cortez south of the US north of Puerto Vallarta. Motorhead - Saw some dyed blondes no naturals. Lots of light, light, brunettes with light skin. Lots of European descendants in Mazatlan. Pacifico the local brewery was started by a German. There was even a Polish deli in the old town.

farmerart - Westjet flies non-stop out of Edmonton and Calgary about a 4 1/2 hour flight. One week all-inclusive on the beach will cost less than $1000. Get the f out of Dodge and have some fun.

how does this compare to TJ? TJ to me is the best bang for the buck overall since it's usually 60 for fs +12 for the room, etc, and easily accessible from SD.
