A reminder about avoiding the cover charge at Las Vegas strip clubs!

Strip clubs in Las Vegas often charge exorbitant covers if you arrive by taxicab through the front door. The sad truth is that all or nearly all of the cash goes straight to the cab driver once you enter...they go around back and pick up the dough...this tradition has snowballed due to the immense influence the cabbie has as to where drunk out-of-towners end up. If you know where you're going ahead of time, you can avoid the cover charge ripoff and also the cab fee!

The simple trick is to call the club for a free limo ride from just about anywhere in the city (even downtown!) and they will take you in through the back door (which is pretty sweet in itself) with NO COVER CHARGE. Of course, you and your boys should tip the driver something for saving you a fortune...

A group of us went to the Spearmint Rhino this way and it was fantastic. It is a high-class joint, no doubt. The club was packed with a wide variety of well-behaved patrons on a Saturday night, but there were plenty of women...all 8-10s. Some were truly breathtaking! I must give this place props. We were floored and all had a great time. I feel like I got GREAT MILEAGE in this place and happily left hundreds of dollars lighter as the hours melted away into memories...

So, how pissed would the cab driver get if you had him drop you at the corner of Highland Dr. and W. Desert Inn Rd. (ie the crossing streets the club is on)? Presumably you'd be paying the regular fare, considerably less than the $50 a head kickback or whatever it comes to the club typically pays.

Not all Vegas clubs will offer to waive the cover charge if you call for a limo, and one or two expect you to pay more than the normal cover charge. Always check the Web site and/or confirm what you're getting when you call.

CT, it is illegal for a taxi in Vegas to pick up or drop off on the street. Also, some clubs will waive the cover if you walk up and some won't, so this should also be confirmed in advance. Deja Vu clubs (at least, Showgirls and Ultra Lounge) have charged me cover on walking up.

Thanks, Chasman. So find a biz within a block or two of the club one wants to go to and take the cab there, then just walk the rest.

Last time in Vegas I stayed at The Mirage and walked over to the Rhino. A bit of an adventure... but when the gal in the booth said $50, the door guy quickly overruled and said $20. I got in for $20. Perhaps it was because he saw me walking in on foot? It was about 6pm and their parking lot wasn't very busy then.

A lot of the clubs ask to see your ID. If you are a local, you get in for much less than if you are from out of town. That just tells you they are there to get as much of your money as possible before you leave. I guess this is the "Vegas" motto. Another reason I don't like Vegas clubs.
