Several State Line Visits in June 2024
I visited State Line 4 times last June during an extended vacation in the Pacific Northwest. I hadn't been here since the mid 1980s. Basic layout was familiar, but I'm sure there have been changes that I didn't notice. The club itself is on one end of a rectangular building with the bar separate on the opposite end with a different entrance.
I entered the bar first so that I could have a couple of drinks before the club opened at 3 PM. It reminded me of biker bars in the Northeast: a long bar along the left wall with tables on the right interrupted by a small circular stage with a stripper pole. There may have been a pool table but I don't remember. What I do remember is the strong smell of stale cigarette smoke with several of the clientele actively smoking. Not being from the area, I asked the bartender about smoking laws, and she told me the town of State Line can determine some of their own laws which may or may not be the same as other towns in Idaho (or even Washington, for that matter.) Great for the locals who like to smoke in bars. There seemed to be quite a few regulars who seemed to know each other.
There were also several young women hanging out at the bar, who I later realized on my second visit were strippers from the club next door. While sitting at the bar, a fairly attractive woman who seemed somehow chemically modified sat down next to me for some small talk. It became apparent that she was known to the regulars, who seemed to avoid her while looking at me with amusement She at first wanted me to buy her a drink and give her some money for a dance on the stage in her short party dress (no nudity here.) I gave her $5 for a dance and that would have been the end of our interaction but she then boldly asked me if I had a room nearby that we could visit. I told her no, to which she responded "Set one up the next time."
