Stopped by for a drink on a slow Thursday evening
Although I have a contract at Larry Flynt's Hustler, I've never visited Barely Legal, its sister club. A friend of mine was bartending Thursday night, so I decided to drop by and visit her, killing two birds with one stone. I'd get to see my friend, and I'd get to scope out Barely Legal and see if it's somewhere I'd like to work.
The streets were busy at 8 p.m., and I stood in a short line waiting to be admitted to the club. I started to worry that I'd have to pay a cover, which I wasn't willing to do. An extremely friendly door guy asked, "Are you ready for some dances?" I told him my friend's name and he waved me back, just asking to see my ID. I think he was relieved I wasn't there asking to audition. I hear a lot of clubs have been swarmed with girls now that season is picking back up. I wouldn't try to audition at night on a Thursday through Saturday night, anyway. I always think managers are busier and less likely to want to audition you and go through the hiring paperwork on prime-time shifts.
Inside, the club was surprisingly empty, considering the foot traffic on Bourbon Street. I saw a few male customers at one end of the bar, a couple dancers at the other end, and two female customers sitting at a table a good distance from the stage. Nobody was tipping the dancer. She was a very pretty white woman with platinum blonde hair, no visible tattoos and a slim-thick figure. She was doing the classic "it's slow so I'm dancing slow to conserve my energy" moves. Even though she wasn't giving it her all, I could tell she'd be an amazing dancer for the right crowd. She did some nice floorwork, dropped into splits, etc.
