What can I say, except RIP to the New Orleans strip club scene. First time back in New Orleans for a good decade. Decided to hit up the French Quarter and take a stroll down memory lane. Decided on Barely Legal for a pit stop and a few drinks. Oppressively humid so any excuse to cool off is welcome in July. Nice seating at the bar and a very friendly staff. But the vibe? Generally just depressing. All dances are air dances in a booth area where the dancer feeds your money into a slot machine which has a time counter. Nothing sexy or seductive about the experience whatsoever. Zero contact, dull and you are left thinking "WTF" happened if you are a regular at strip clubs. This used to be the Big Sleazy, now its been cleaned up and policed to the point where you question why these clubs even serve a purpose. The dancers on stage were fine, but this just isn't fun. Drinks are comparable to what you would pay at any other French Quarter bar. It's not anger, its more you feel pity for the place. Yes I am venting, but its all from a good place. Hopefully things change, but I doubt it. The VIP area upstairs I was told is really just more of the same, with the dancer I was chatting to saying don't waste your money.
