Some Friday night last summer, my boyfriend and I (plus a few family members) decided to be adventurous and scope out Treasures Houston night club. It was just past midnight, we were all dressed rather nice, and a strip club just seemed like a fun outing to try since we're all very close. I'd like to think we're all attractive to some degree, plus all professionals and either in college or college graduates. Respectful and well-mannered, and not ones to ever hurt a fly, much less make a stripper uncomfortable. So here's my story..
We arrive, valet our cars and make our way in to the club. Thank goodness we had more men with us than women (I've heard only one girl for every guy present), and being able to enjoy a carefree and sexy night with the people I love just sounds like a recipe for a good time. The atmosphere was very sensual (dimmed lighting of course) and with a "Roxannnnne..you don't have to put on the red light" red-lighting kind of feel to the place. We notice close to no customers sitting near the front of the stage, so we took it upon ourselves to take the front seats. This night was "breaking our virginity" to experiencing a strip club together, so why not take front seats?? The strippers were alright (I'd say between a 6 and an 8..and that goes for the best looking ones), but we wanted our experience. So after grabbing about 6 bottled waters at around $8-10 a pop (if my memory serves me right), we took our front row seats. Not even 5 minutes goes by, and a bouncer asks to take me aside (I am a woman mind you). He leads on to explain how the last stripper who had just gotten off stage complained to him about us for "throwing quarters on the stage" and how unacceptable and degrading that is for the dancers. I immediately started laughing (probably wasn't the smartest thing for me to do, but I couldn't believe what I was hearing). We all had stopped off at an ATM and had even broken our twenties (I think each of us had around $60-$100 that we wanted to spend), so the idea of us throwing quarters was laughable. And that didn't include the costly entrance fee we had just paid not even 10 minutes prior.. That ATM stop was for the strippers. Well, without even giving me a chance to debate his ridiculous inquiry, he said that we "had better get out before he gets the cops to do it." I have never been so insulted.
Bottom line, if the guys running this place have a problem with sophisticated looking women attending their nightclub, or rather the strippers have a problem with it, chances are good that there is plenty criminal activity being had. Shoot, maybe the place just didn't approve of a small group of people in their twenties getting so close to where acts of prostitution are being had (we saw none, but rumors serve that to be true). Or maybe the strippers made it up because it's hard to perform in front of women their age knowing the men we were with would not be candidates for the high-dollar operations being had in the back rooms. Whatever the reason, that evening was such a disappointment, and how such a dishonest thievery of an establishment can stay in business just based on non-customer satisfaction alone is beyond me. I give the place two thumbs down.
