This is the best, most relevant post I've read in a long time. I visited TJ last month and am visiting again in January. I plan on applying the lessons you are describing. Thank you Obi-Wan!!
There is still construction, but it has moved a bit further to the east - past Adelita''s. As for walking around, I never experienced any issues but was really careful. Previous posts about the policia made me nervous. I did circle the HK block once, but sort of confined myself to visiting Bar Tropical and Oxxo (in the alley). I just didn't want to take chances.
Thank you for sharing. I'm visiting TJ in 10,days and this is important to know. It's been several years since my last visit and I never had any fear of walking around before. I'm definitely going to have to readjust my behavior. Looks like I'm staying at Resort Cascadas more! Not a bad place to be confined!
I appreciate all of your feedback. I haven't been to TJ in 7 years. I never had an issue walking around before. I even walked back and forth from Hotel Ticuan to HK.
Are the bar fines all pretty similar/the same at the smaller clubs?
BTW - Ron, I have read your detailed posts. They are great! I plan on re-reading them. In particular, your Spanish tutorial is fantastic. I speak some Spanish and thought I was decent, but I read how you suggested saying similar things. It was vastly different.
I plan on attempting a post when I return. You set a high bar!
Thanks for the info. I do plan on staying at Cascadas. Since I'm staying there, there's really no point venturing to the Chicago Club. One, the caution needed to just walk over there, but also because I'm not going to pay for a room there when I have one at Cascadas. Traveling solo, any concerns about walking around the neighborhood? I'll definitely not going to carry much cash. But, I do want to check out some of the street girls, grab stuff at the pharmacy, etc...
