Would Go Back
$3 entry, and the lowest for a dance is $20. Lots of girls so lots of variation on milage. Little guy unlikely to get air for just the $20 dances though.

A second look
I have gone ahead and submitted an addition for La Malquerida as a club on tuscl. Interesting to see that DV actually follows the posts on this site. As for the value proposition, it is hard for most new mongers to justify $100+ for FS while in TJ. This is especially true when HK has hot young girls begging for you to take them up stairs for $70~120 (plus room) and you get an in-room shower. But consider this: FS could be had in la zona for as low as $10~15, and yet HK persists. So cost alone is not the determining factor. If DV can find its niche as the "high end" TJ club that's closer to the border, perhaps it can survive. Also, many of us mongers desire variety as we make subsequent trips to the same dream destinations. Just the fact that we can have a slightly different experience from what's offered by la zona clubs justifies DVTJ's existence. Just my 2 pesos.

Mayor of Titty City
Locas
Thanks for keeping us up to date. The strip club cleanup in Arlington actually started in 2004. Prior to that, the clubs were plentiful and dirty--just the way I liked 'em. Starting in 2004, they instituted a 15 foot rule where the dancer could not be nude on stage if a patron was within that distance. It really diminished the stage tips for many girls, especially in black clubs. Once construction for the new stadium got underway, things got worse for the adult industry as the city tried to re-brand itself as a tourism destination. Cops were actually given directives to pull over customers as they left club parking lots and perform sobriety tests. This was done to shame and harass customers from returning. Some clubs fought back with litigation. One club owner (of Flashdancer I think) actually just finished a stint in prison for trying to pay for a hit job on then mayor Robert Cluck. I heard that guy actually married one of his former dancers last year while still in prison. Not sure how they were able to pull that ceremony off.

Stop Paying Their Price
Preach! Wongy is the master, dropping truth. His reviews on TJ's were what prompted me to make my first trip out last year. For all those who have never taken the plunge, read wongy's past reviews. Lots of knowledge and practices to be gained from his masterful posts.

Not sure how they stay in business
This is why i miss cabaret royale. The dayshift there used to have decent variety, great milage, decent privacy upstairs, and an ok buffet. Not sure where to go in dfw for a similar experience.

You might get stabbed
Something I forgot to mention was that one of the dancers mentioned that there was a brawl in this club the previous week. Makes sense as this is an after hours joint for folks in FW who just don't want to go home after last call. The crowd gets more mixed as you approach the morning hours. Bleary-eyed cowboys, hip-hoppers, business men, asians, hipsters, and Tejanos can be a volatile mix.

I arrived at the border crossing around 5pm Friday
This guy's earlier review of zona norte inspired me to make my first trip down. Show us how this shit is done! We should aim for a Detroit tuscl meetup sometime next year.

It is always a good idea to make clear what services you with to purchase ahead of time. This applies with club girls and street girls. I have met a few who simply will not engage in kissing of any sort. Most just want to set a price beforehand.

The large metropolitan areas going through decades-long depression should seriously consider this. There is a strong correlation between Detroit's current economic climate and its well reviewed clubs here on TUSCL.

Just let us know when you want to make the trip. I'm sure you can always find a few TUSCLers to meet you down there since mongers find strength in numbers. You could even invite your alter ego.

The most recent questions are out of my wheelhouse. You will have to take that up with your accountant. As for Azul, look on Google street view and place yourself on Primer Callejon Coahuila which is the street on the south side of the block containing HK and Adelita Bar. If you look at the southern exit for HK, to the east of that is an entrance for Las Chavelas, then the stairway and loading dock for Hotel Cascadas, then the tiny door just beyond the loading dock is the entrance to Azul. If you see the entrance to La Valentina Bar, you've missed it. Directly above Azul is the balcony I spoke of.

The 3 HK affiliated clubs (Tropical being one of them) and 2 hotels do not have their own kitchen. You can however order Azul's (restaurant owned by HK next to Cascadas on Callejon Coahuila) full menu and have it delivered to any table or room in an HK affiliated establishment. Azul does not have a whole lot of seating. If you want to share a meal with a girl you pick up in la zona, having it delivered to your room is not a bad option. The balcony overlooking the alley is also not a bad place to chill for a meal. You may have to ask one of the porters to unlock the door on the second floor of Cascadas; which they are happy to do. I found Azul's offerings to be mediocre but serviceable. There are a fair number of sit down places in zona norte. Montecarlo between Adelita and the church comes to mind.

The true gems are further away from the red light district. As far as food in zona norte, there's lots of bland Mexican food catering to American tastes. For something slightly adventurous, I recommend Kentucky Fried Buches. 40 pesos for 12 pieces of Fried chicken necks with pickeled cabbages and fresh salsa on the side. Though it was featured on Anthony Bourdain, you will largely see middle-aged locals here. A single old guy is basically running this hole in the wall "diner dash" style. It was located in the same place since 1963 until moving across the street (Google still lists it at the old location on the east side as of this writing) earlier this year. If you are scared of venturing too far from the unknown, this place is only about half a block south from the block there HK and adelitas are. It's on Constitucion.

Each street girl will have different circumstances. Some will be up for toda la niche, some may have familial obligations. Some might be accustomed to doing a 15 minute passionate romp but don't trust being alone with a guy on a bender for more than an hour. I will say that I have witnessed Asian guys being offered non-paid dates by not only bar girls but street girls as well. The one black guy in our group last trip NEVER got offered a date. Sorry, it's true. As for the pricing, know that the average annual income for a Mexican household is under the equivalent of 13,000 usd per year. So a couple hundred pesos per 15 minutes is a good deal of money for those with limited alternative financial prospects. Many girls do month long stints twice a year in zona norte and spend the rest of the year in their home town.

All of the food around zona norte is passable to the American palate. If you want a burger, steak, or gringo taco, there are lots of options. TJ really went through a revival when tourism died down during the cartel wars of 2007~2012. Lots of arts, food, and services developed during this period geared towards local consumption. My first couple of trips to TJ were non-stop whore-a-thons. On my last trip, I actually spent more than half of my time tracking down street food and gourmet offerings recommended by locals as well as Anthony Bourdain, Rick Bayless, Eddie Huang, and numerous television programs. It was a trip of excesses in every way. To people who are looking to spend more than a day in TJ and don't mind taking a $5~10 cab ride, feel free to ask me for food recommendations. Or watch some videos of food in Baja.

You can get a room in advance for the night then head down to the club or street. Or you can pick a girl and then go to either entrance to get a room for 30 minutes or the night. If it's a Mon, Tue, Fri, or Sat night, Cascadas' rooms get booked up early. I would highly recommend making a reservation via the website ahead of time for the busier nights of the week. If Cascadas is full, Riso de Oro (across the street next to Tropical Bar) usually has a room for less. But it'll be a slightly longer walk when inebriated. While street girls are not really bound to go to a specific hotels, many club girls can only go to certain hotels affiliated with their club. Tropical Bar, HK, and Las Chavelas girls can go to Cascadas or Riso de Oro. Adelitas girls can only go to Hotel Coahuila. Most other clubs have an adjacent hotel but you can pay a salidas fee to take them to most other hotels within half a block. Some locals (from San Diego) we were chatting with claimed to have gone through relationships with multiple club girls over the years. If you are the use 'em and leave 'em type, this is a great town to leave near. I would not really want to visit a TJ girl's home out of safety concerns. That's like going with a sociopath to their second location. There are multiple cambios all over town. They usually look like a reinforced bank teller window with an electronic sign out front with the posted buy/sell rates for the day. There are 5 or more within 1 block of HK. If you go to Revolucion (touristy road south of zona norte) or beyond, sometime the rates are slightly more favorable. On the weekend I went, most cambios in zona norte were offering in the neighborhood of 18.35 pesos to the dollar while some elsewhere in the city were offering as much as 18.6 pesos. A huge difference if you're looking to change a couple hundred USD. ATM and credit cards all work in Mexico. I would recommend putting a travel alert on your bank card/account so that you don't have random freezes. ATMs are everywhere and other monger reports claim that they are safe due to the industry not wanted to get a bad rep. Your bank may process an international surcharge. As far as phones go, that all depends on your carrier and plan. One person in our party had AT&T and was fine. One had been promised that his MetroPCS would work on arrival, but had to contact customer service to get the Mexico service activated (free of charge) in order to get data. Two had Sprint and Simple Mobile and could not get service for the duration of our trip. For those in doubt, I had recommended in a previous review that everyone simply grab a Telcel (or Movistar) prepaid SIM in San Ysidro right before crossing over.

All of TJ will take dollars or pesos. As a yank, you will get better rates when exchanging to pesos. Every cash register in TJ has both pesos and usd, so the industry is used to accommodating. The local girls go home to rest. The out of town girls rent rooms in la zona. Many hotels (Cascadas included) have lockers that street girls rent for the day to leave their money and spare outfits. Some of the street girls look like 18 year old shakira. Some guys go through decompression after Burning Man. I go through withdrawals after coming back from TJ. As for post coital intimacy, I have had far better experience with non-HK girls. I have had lingering conversations after the act or offers of non-paid dates from girls from DG, Tropical, Adelitas, Valentina, and several street girls. This has never happened with a girl from HK. I recognize that these ladies were probably looking for a guy to treat them like a princess or perhaps husband hunting. I know I'm not not some handsome lady killer. Still, the illusion is part of TJ's allure.

In response to sjg, we stopped in several puta bars on the same block as hk and some well beyond. Customers danced with the girls in many of the places catering to a more local crowd. Not really my thing, but it was interesting to see. Many of the paraditas definitely choose to freelance because the club environment is not appealing to them. There are lots of really hot street girls. If you see a girl walking around, it's usually because they do not have a health card a cannot legally stand and advertise their wares. They might be druggies or American girls down on their luck. Some people like that the walking girls might be cheaper or might be desperate enough to do the more extreme stuff. Since the flamingos (girls who stand with one leg against the wall, get it?) only charge 100~300 for 15 min, why not play it safer? Most paraditas do not have a contract with the hotels they stand in front of. Girls usually have to pay a fee to the businesses for the privilege to stand in front. While they are not obligated to use the closest hotel, some would prefer not to walk too far since time is money. My TJ trips have always been about living the short term excesses. Haven't tried a toda la noche yet. Maybe next time. When are we going?
