Yep Biden mentioned in his speech in Philly this weekend, that the top oil companies made 100 Billion in the last two quarters.

There is a logic to the answer of 40 but it's flawed, I did it too quick.
I agree 96 is the superior answer. Congrats to mark for getting it first.
Can we have another puzzle ?

>Saving 3% on drugs for seniors would be great if seniors weren't paying way more than 3% more for everything else they need to survive.
@mike710 - No the 3% is the impact on big pharma companies. The impact on seniors will potentially be far greater, due to provisions such as the $2000 cap on out-of-pocket expenses. For example, some seniors are paying more than 4K out-of-pocket a year on certain drugs. With the 2K cap that's a savings of 2K or 100%.

Tetra thank you for your last post. I certainly do understand how company revenues, profits, news and regulations can impact stock prices (SMH LOL).
You were noting that some clinical trials were being cancelled, which implies some belt-tightening by big pharma. When you pointed to the stock price, it seemed logical that you were implying an unfavorable impact of IRA on pharma, which would align with big pharma CEOs having been against the bill. This has certainly been written about.
https://www.kiplinger.com/investing/605063/ira-bill-a-blessing-in-disguise-for-drug-stocks
This article states: "Overall, according to UBS estimates, the impact equates to less than 3% of global biopharma industry earnings over a 10-year time frame."
So I think we agree the IRA won't have a major impact on big pharma profits.
However, that 3% could be huge for helping subsidize drug costs for American seniors. While you acknowledged the benefit to seniors, you seem to be largely deflecting by wading into the sausage making. For average Americans it's not complicated, this component of the IRA is highly welcome news.

This is why history is an important subject in education.
I'm open to discussing the exact dollar amount of the defense budget, but a full pull back from international activity would inevitably lead to an expansion of totalitarian and communist regimes. Fortunately, support for defense spending and focused international involvement such as Ukraine is strong among both Dems and Repubs.
After women and travel, supporting Ukraine has been my #3 top category of discretionary spending this year.

>Thanks for making my point.
Your point was, and is, incoherent.
The IRA has been advertised and is expected to provide financial benefits to millions of seniors who have difficulty affording their medications. Do you refute this or not? Don't deflect to some other tangential point, just answer the question.

>Look at pharma stocks since then.
Merck is at an all-time high. Oops
Those poor billionaires and mega corporations... trust me they'll be fine. But if you'd rather scrap cost controls on drugs that benefit millions of Americans, many on fixed incomes, in favor of protecting the profits of the top 0.1%, go ahead. It will be an uphill battle repealing that one.

>Want more of that?
No need for more right now. We now have the Inflation Reduction Act signed into law. It's a great piece of legislation including the following:
- controls costs for drugs covered under Medicare (addresses inflation)
- progressive taxation
- deficit reduction
- tax credits for renewable energy
- re-staff the IRS properly after being gutted by Trump
If I thought any of these were "eh" I'd say so. But they're all good.

^ Spin. There are elements of a referendum and elements on the future path of the country.
But you are correct a divided government will be the result. And Republicans will be able to breathe a sigh of relief that they stopped the imaginary monster.

Kamala, you're FIRED!
Oprah endorses Fetterman - and her timing was perfect. She was the one who made Oz famous on TV. Oh man that's got to hurt Oz, at least on a personal level. We'll see how it impacts voting.
I watched the following short interview with Fetterman, he was pretty well spoken. The contrast in authenticity between him and Oz is amazing.

scrub - look at 1:19 in your Twitter video, the reporter reads: "According to court documents: When the officer asked what was going on, Defendent smiled and said "everything's good"."
The reporter is reading directly from the court transcript, you can see it in the video. Here is the actual court document "People v. DePape" for you to see, look on page 6:

Kamala, you're FIRED!
Per the article - the attacker DePape said "everything's good" when the police came, not Paul Pelosi. Now ask yourself - why would Mr. Pelosi call 911, and then pretend everything was good when the police show up? It doesn't add up. Don't be so stupid. Mr. Pelosi was trying to keep things calm because he knew he was in the presence of a nutjob.
This tabloid site used the word "mystery" in their story title to get clicks from conspiracy theorists, who will then also spread it. It's a form of clickbait and it works. Yes it's good to question everything you read, but at some point you have to rely on facts and common sense.

They never tell you what you need to know.
Gammanu is clearly a dishonest poster and he knows it, as does every other reader here. His latest remarks about Dems wanting to completely control society and wipe out opposing thought are particularly amusing but delusional.
In addition to Biden having helped bring down the price of gas, the IRA is another example of Democratic efforts to address inflation. The criticism from the right is partly justified, in that as a bill overall it is not all focused on inflation reduction. But elements of the bill do address inflation, such as the provisions impacting the price of drugs covered under Medicare. Since these provisions kick in in 2023, Republicans have a convenient window to attempt to discredit the bill before it's benefits become tangible.

I did some research on GDL last year as it was (and still is) on my short list for new places. Haven't visited yet as I've been occupied with repeating at other favorite destinations. ISG has an active GDL board and would be your best resource for current intel. The night clubs can be pricy, but some have on-site action available. Here are a few that were reported on. I have some more links to Twitter chicas and escort/massage places if you're interested.

Out in the real world, Trump is on the election trail supporting candidates that share his election-denial views and are mostly likely to be loyal to him down the road. He is waiting to see how well these candidates fare before deciding whether he will run in 2024. If he does, absolutely that will be a concern to Dems and to many Republicans as well who care about democracy. Liz Cheney has it right.

^ Wrong again. Biden took numerous steps to bring down the price of gas this year. The average price recently is about $3.76 per gallon, down about $1.25 since the June peak of over $5 per gallon.
You can thank Joe Biden for paying less at the pump today.

Biden had good messaging last night. He clearly called out the threat to democracy from MAGA, which most Americans agree with, according to polls. In addition the MAGA crowd seems to have a disproportionate amount of vitriol, hate and lack of respect for fellow Americans who don't agree with them. We can see that right here on TUSCL. The MAGA leader, Trump, recently posted that Mitch McConnell had a death wish, and is on the attack again today by suggesting McConnell be impeached if he doesn't do as Trump says. Just like with Pence, they will even go after their own party if they feel they have to.
