5 things worth the money

What are 5 upgrades or luxuries you could live without, but insist are worth the extra cost?

  1. Wet toilet paper - Singe-ply is the devil's sandpaper. You've only got one asshole, you use it daily, treat it well. I always put a pack in my luggage when I travel.

  2. Particle men's products - they work, or so women told me after I started using them.

  3. Grass-fed, pasture raised, free range proteins - natural diets and exercise results in animals living with fewer stress hormones and stronger constitutions, which makes your meat healthier with more healthy nutrients and fewer inflammatory byproducts

  4. Cozy Earth Bamboo Sheets - sleep is foundational to success, happiness, and good health. Cozy Earth Bamboo sheets is second only to silk.

  5. Properties too large to see your neighbors - I have never in my life had neighbors to the rear of my yard. Once I had neighbors kitty-corner to each rear property, and once I had a property where the houses were as little as six or seven feet apart. I had significant problems with each. Now, with the Caloosahatchee backing up my rear fence and mixed Clusia, Bottlebrush, and Callandia hedgerows, I have all the peace and privacy I can ask for

My 2024 Mustang GT. Insurance companies don't like 84 year olds who drive 480hp vehicles. My insurance is currently $3100+ per year with no tickets in 12 years and have never been at fault of any accident.

Forget toilet paper, install a toilet seat bidet if you want to get clean.

@LuvMissKitty best investments I ever made 😊

@LuvMissKitty I started using a bidet about 5 years ago. I could never go back to cleaning up with toilet paper. It's fuckin uncivilized.

I agree with ShadowCat, cars and or specifically dream cars. Whether your dream car is 20k or 2m, it's your dream car and should be on your own garage. I own 4 vehicles, one of which 2019 Corvette Grand Sport (my second Corvette, always wanted one since I was 11 years old and the next door neighbor had a 1980 white one).

@shadowcat , I always thought California was expensive on cat insurance, $3100 for your new mustang in Georgia? My Corvette is $1800 (maybe because I don't drive it a lot, it's a third option), but there's also 3 other cars on the policy too. My 1965 Chevy is only $240 for the year full coverage, lover the classic car insurance.

I think you mean CADDY CORNER - but hey maybe your neighbors had a really big smelly vagina!!!

@rawhide2 I wrote "kitty-corner" because I meant "kitty-corner". I actually have never heard "caddy-corner" before your response

. Both "caddy-corner" and "kitty-corner" mean diagonally opposite, but "kitty-corner" is the more widely accepted and commonly used form. Meaning Both terms describe a position diagonally across from something else, such as a building, street, or object. For example, if a store is kitty-corner from a park, it is located diagonally across the intersection from the park GRAMMARIST

. The terms can function as adjectives or adverbs, e.g., "The car is parked kitty-corner to the entrance" Writing Explained

Variants and Origins Kitty-corner: The most popular modern variant, especially in North America, derived from the older term "catty-corner" Writing Explained

Catty-corner: An older form, historically common in New England, originating from Middle English "catre corner," linked to the French word quatre meaning "four" Writing Explained

Caddy-corner: A Southern and Midland U.S. variant, likely influenced by the word "caddy," but considered less standard wsu.edu

Cater-corner: The original term from the 16th century, now largely obsolete, meaning "diagonal across a four-cornered space" grammarguide.blog

Little luxuries I don't need but enjoy:

  1. Lap dances from pretty strippers.
  2. A cat. I never had a pet but decided to have at least one in my life so I got a cat and lived with it for 15 years until it passed away.
  3. Healthy food. I spend extra on healthy food like grass fed meat, wild caught salmon or organic fruits and vegetables. Eating healthy in the past has left me with with no medical problems as a 70 year old.
  4. Coffee shops. A small luxury I enjoy is buying a cup of coffee and drinking it while sitting and relaxing, especially in locally owned coffee shops.
  5. Day trips to parks. I like to visit city or state parks around Indiana with hiking trails so I can get out in nature for a little while. I may then follow it with a trip to a nearby local restaurant and sometimes to a local strip club

@docsavage I second coffee shops, as long as it isn't Starbucks.

+1 for healthy food, bamboo sheets, and a cat.

I'll add:

  1. A good mattress and desk chair. Same mentality, if you're going to spend 8 hours a day there, don't be cheap about it. Quality remains long after you stop thinking about price.

  2. Anything exercise-related that you actually use. A good gym membership rather than Planet Dickless or some place crawling with MRSA. Krav Maga and later Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu are expensive, but not only give killer workouts and useful skills but great friends. Once you've beaten someone's ass or had your ass beaten by them, you see each other in a different light.

  3. Plane tickets to see family. I'm in my mid-40s and know my parents aren't going to be around forever. Create memories, squelch regrets.

  4. Anything that creates a once-in-a-lifetime memory, even if it's a splurge. Like when I had a 9-course meal at the French Laundry (Gavin Newsom would approve). It cost $425, and this was 15 years ago. But it was sublime. Some things it's OK to be cheap about. A lot of vacations, quality over quantity; better to ball out for 3 crazy days than have two weeks of meh. In my strip clubbing days, one crazy night was better than 10 so-so visits. FKKs were the creme de la creme. Also in vacations, the most memorable parts are never taking a picture of the Eiffel Tower, it's interacting with the locals.

  5. Aw hell, I'll mention my cat again. I don't need her but she instantly cheers me up. Outsized return on investment.

  1. The money, time, and effort to grow your own herbs vegetables.
  2. Farm raised meat from the farmer's market.
  3. A cruise. Definitely worth the money.
  4. Investing in your retirement from your very first job.
  5. Strippers.

I'm too cheap to name 5 things, but on my last trip to Europe I paid extra for more legroom on the flight, and probably will continue to do this. Some of you ballers may say "go first class".

  1. Top shelf weed; 2) A WRX with two sets of rims so I don't fuck em up in winter; 3) driving past 50 farmstands to go to Wilsons, where everything they sell is better than every other farm (142 years and going strong); 4) My Saatva mattress (if you have back issues, buy one) 5) Planet Fitness Black Card.

  1. DRIVING A WRX. I'm not a "car guy" but I enjoy driving. The WRX is an experience every time you get in, and it still comes in a 6-speed. (Thanks for the advice @skibum609)
  2. RIDING A HARLEY. Sure, it costs money every time you turn around, but totally worth it. Previously had a Ninja and an R6, but the Fatboy is my "grown-up" bike.
  3. USING A BIDET. I was reluctant to get one because it seemed weird, but a friend of mine wouldn't stop raving about how great it is. He was right.
  4. FRENCH PRESS COFFEE. I don't think it's too expensive, but it's a bit labor intensive. I buy whole bean coffee and grind it fresh. Once I started brewing this way I threw out my Keurig machine.
  5. DUAL MONITORS on my home computer. I don't do much on a phone, tablet or laptop; I find the touch screens annoying as fuck. Having two large screens is a little extra convenience I wouldn't want to give up.

Having quality toys is worth it.

I picked up guitar during covid, I'll never be great but my Martin 00-28 makes me sound good when I get it right.

When wife and I canoed we had a 54lb 3 seat Kevlar Wenona. Good quality mtn bikes made the trails better.

Cost long forgotten, memories last.

  1. I don't buy Great Value or Market Pantry or whatever generic brand anything, only generic brand I trust is Kirkland. Water or Milk, that's it for me for generic brand.

  2. Hotels. You'll never catch me at a Days Inn or Super 8 or a fucking Motel 6 when I'm traveling. The lowest I'm willing to go is a Holiday Inn or maybe a really nice looking newer La Quinta depending on the area and the look of the building. A Best Western Plus in OKC wowed me one time too with how nice and clean the room was, I will admit. When I travel, I'm not trying to stay at a crack den or Norman Bates's Playground. I don't wanna hear screaming and other bullshit through cheap motel walls when I'm trying to get some rest.

  3. Gasoline, I run 91 in my 23' Ecoboost Mustang. 87 ain't bad, but you get more power with at least 91 and it's better for your engine. (I'm getting a GT in the near future, the deal was too good to pass up with my 23).

  4. Food. I don't mind paying 30 bucks for a large pizza pie from a quality local place (I love the East Coast just for this reason, so many amazing local spots). Rather pay that 30 than pay 6 bucks from a POS Pizza from Little Caesars.

  5. Good tickets, whether that might be at a concert or a sports game. No point in going if you're way up in the nose bleeds. You might as well watch it on TV. You don't really experience what's going on way up there, watching it all from a big screen vs being down in the middle of it all.

Listed in order of approximate cost...

  1. Adding Colby-Jack and tomato to my CFA chicken sandwich. 😃

  2. High quality fountain drinks.

  3. Some nice shoe inserts to provide extra cushioning for my feet.

  4. A heated steering wheel (maybe not as useful in south FLA...)

  5. Ventilated seats (might be quite useful in south FLA...)

I think it's great that someone gave me a thumbs down, so I just now gave myself another thumbs down as well. It was probably the Colby-Jack that did it...dang it, I knew I should have said Pepper Jack instead. I'm so embarrassed...

I'm also taking this opportunity to try out the new site features like "edit" and "delete". Evidently, I can only give myself one thumbs down for each of my own lame posts...

Clearly, I've had way too much caffeine this evening, and I'm having lots of trouble falling asleep... 😜

@ClubFan81077, The two people who mentioned strippers also got thumbs down.

Which seems weird on a site dedicated to strip clubs, but whatever.

@georgmicrodong Yep...that would be like giving a thumbs down to bread on a site dedicated to sandwiches...lol
