I have long believed that the industry goes through a reboot/reset about every 4-5 years. It feels to me like there are cycles in the quality of performers who are recruited and the services they deliver. Just roughly, I'd guess we had major industry shifts around 1996, 2001, 2005, 2009, 2014, 2018, and 2022. I could be off on the exact years. But I'm curious if anyone has any theories on technology, economics, social media, cultural zietgiest, and other factors might have changed the quality of performers who entered the industry and the services they offered? Do more attractive women join or leave for any reason at any time? Based on recent trends, do you think we might be in for another reset/reboot around 2026/2027 and why?
The 4-5 year reset, what do you think drives it?

Good theory… what about a possible downturn in the economy meaning some young women may resort to stripping versus a more traditional job?
Cost of living and inflation have both been stubbornly high leading some women to strip for what is perceived as fast and easy money or maybe some are looking to it as a 2nd form of income.
That onlyfans model and sugar baby things didn’t really work out.
There are a lot more restrictions on dancer age. Most of them are well past it but most of my favorites started before 21. In Atlanta this wasn’t enforced in some clubs but I think it has hurt clubs in recent years. I like spinners but in general my favorites are actually girls I’ve known for more than five years and a few closer to 10.
I have been going to strip clubs since around 2010. In my first several years of going, I had long time strippers tell me there was a shift after the financial crisis of 2008, with less money being spent in strip clubs. This then resulted in a decline in the number of strip clubs and the quality of the strippers.
I feel like another shift happened after the Covid lockdowns. It is harder to find regulars I like and have pretty much given up on the idea of having regulars. Local strip clubs continue to dwindle in numbers, the remaining clubs have fewer customers and the ones there spend less. Prices in general have been rising faster than wages, causing people to become poorer.
I generally only get dances from known favs, and stick with them for years. So that would obscure cycles for me.
I think OF and pandemic really hurt strip clubs from 2020-2023 but I think we are back in an upswing now that OF has become so oversaturated and cost of living is completely out of control in so many parts of the country
Like most economic theories one can easily attach correlation. With the time periods mentioned by OP (and changing 2018 to 2020) one could attach alternating external factors of technology and economy driving change in strip clubs: Technology (internet 1996) Economy (dotcom bubble 2001) Technology (iPhone 2005) Economy (mortgage bubble 2009) Technology (social media 2014) Economy (COVID 2020) Technology (post COVID Onlyfans / camming 2022)
@iknowbetter its much more than just onlyfans and technology.
Online porn was always an alternative and competitor of strip clubs. Even playboy magazines were. Of course seeing a magazine or online porn isnt the same as seeing a real life nude woman but thats besides the point- the fact is there are a % of guys who consume those things as an alternative.
Internet porn in general also affects strip clubs, a well as the rise of internet escorts and pornstar escorts.
There is also hiphop and music culture which actually heavily promotes strip clubs in particular party type clubs with minimal lap dances and no extras- as well as that same music influencing tens of thousands of guys to believe that its actually a good and cool thing to date or even marry a stripper and cool to pimp girls out.
All these things play a role on everything else whether its strippers who provide extras or non extras dancers. Being a stripper is considered a cool profession, which has no doubt led to lots of girls going into it. It certainly isnt something a girl would only engage in out of desperation for money
Everything runs in cycles but not regular or predictable cycles like the OP mentions. And the factors pulling and pushing on any industry are a thousand fold, from political and economic to social and cultural factors. Not to mention that each persons own internal attitude and assessment of a situation is in a constant state of flux. The only constant is change itself. What you can be sure of is that if you think an industry is in a downturn this month next month it will be assured to be improving or even shittier.
@iknowbetter, can’t speak on pre 2001, but
Technology (iPhone 2005) -> no impact on dancer quality or availability imho. Economy (mortgage bubble 2009) -> more younger dancers joining. Technology (social media 2014) -> no impact on dancer quality or availability.
Economy (COVID 2020) Technology (post COVID Onlyfans / camming 2022) -> ton of club closures, significant numbers of dancer retirements. Price increases by 30-50%. Increases in extras availability.
This is all for NYC area.

Every day 17 year olds turn 18 and20 year olds turn 21. That gives me hope
No clue on reset but I don’t see why it would be now/soon (other then perhaps the tighter immigration policy)
