Rising prices for things like rent or food in New York and other places in the country are certainly a problem but the solutions Mamdani comes up with, like rent control or government run grocery stores selling cheaper food, are not the solution. Price controls lead to shortages and government run businesses are inefficient.

The solution is just to end the government policies that are leading to inflation and higher prices. There are some public goods the government has to supply, like police or a military, but it is better to have most goods and services provided on the market.

Except for the fact that the supply of strip clubs is sometimes artificially restricted by the government, strip clubs operate in a free market environment. If I have a bad experience with a strip club or stripper here in Indianapolis I can switch over to another strip club or another stripper in the same club. My money does not have to go to something I don't want.

One side works only for the billionaires and the super wealthy. The other side works to see that everyone can survive. One side is completely selfish and has zero empathy. The other side actually cares about people. One side is racist as fuck and racially profiles people whether they're a citizen or not and violently kidnaps them no with due process, no calls allowed and doesn't even check whether they are a citizen or not. By the way, our country can't afford to fund things like social security or Medicare without immigrants, legal or not they contribute billions in taxes and have social security taken out of their checks even though they aren't eligible to receive it. Capitalism worked when when had a strong middle class and the rich paid high taxes. Ever since trickle down economics began nothing has trickled down and our wealth gap has exploded. Rents for rent stabilized apartments were frozen in 2015, 2016 and 2020 by the mayor through appointments to the New York City Rent Guidelines Board.

From this historical perspective, Mamdani's proposals may be more reflective of the time when NYC flourished while offering both free education and rent controlled apartments
