Is it just me or is it valid to think that someone with 'swagger' in his name shouldn't be concerned with such a trivial matter as safety? Just go have fun.

I have not had a single violent interaction in TJ. Your only concern are the police and they are generally easy to avoid. Walk with a purpose when you see them driving around.

If I take the Zona shuttle will that be safer? Could I avoid the cops that way and does the zona shuttle take me right back to the border entry?

Would I go leisurely walking around Zona Norte at night by myself ? Heck No. Would I walk around flashing money or being in public drunk ? Heck No.

But the clubs in the area are run by the Mexican Mafia. They know that place is their cash cow. So it's an unwritten rule that no one does anything to anyone when in the district.

When I go, I walk across the border and take a cab directly to the hotel. I stay in the immediate area. All of the clubs are within about a 3 block area. Almost all of the outside activity is in a back alley. Stay inside the clubs as much as possible. Eat in Azul. You will be fine.

But if you get drunk, go see other parts of the city and look like you have money, you are asking for trouble. I've been several times. As long as I'm in the immediate vicinity of the clubs, I feel completely safe.

There are plenty of vikings in minnesota but no connection with them. My name is regarding my Norse heritage. Seriously if you want to talk trivial how about a guy that has started 10 discussions looking for intel yet has zero reviews, all take no give, zero swagger there jack lol.

I've been hassled by the bandits with badges Tijuana police right outside of Hong Kong before within the last 2 years. I'm a 6'3. the white guy and I cannot even begin to blend in with others on the streets or wherever I am in Mexico.

when I do walk outside I am looking for any TJ police vehicles and try to keep away from them because I cannot afford to be robbed by them again.

I call them bandits with badges because you can't run from them. You can't defend yourself from them. but I have learned to hide my money and just try to stay out of their way.

I still go down cuz I really enjoy the the clubs like Hong Kong especially. and the safest way to get to to Hong Kong from the border and to get back to the border from Hong Kong is the zona shuttle. I was just down there past Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and had a blast!!!

It’s not just TJ. It’s all of Mexico. Very, very dangerous. I myself have been killed three times just this year. Stay away if you want to live.

I’ve been going to TJ for the past five years (ten trips in total), and I’ve never had any problems with the police. Like others here have suggested, if you stay sober and don’t get drunk, and stay within the immediate vicinity (HK, BT, CC, La Gloria, Odisea, La Malquerida, and the alley bars), you shouldn’t have any trouble. If you do decide to go into Zona Centro, though the area is a short walk from HK and is generally safe, I’d take a taxi to and from there.

Maybe it was just good timing and being lucky, but I went to HK the first time earlier this year on a Sunday night. Was in SD for a conference and drove to Pes East around 9pm, parked, walked across the border, found the Zona Shuttle and arrived safely at HK. The place was simply amazing and I eventually locked eyes on a beauty dancing on the pole. I soon had her up to a room for a ride. It was awesome. Then rode the shuttle back to the border around 2am and walked back across with no issues. Part of it is act like you’ve been there before so you don’t look lost and/or vulnerable.

“ Part of it is act like you’ve been there before so you don’t look lost and/or vulnerable.”

@Jacks4thson is spot on with this. If you walk with a purpose, not being hesitant and unsure, that helps to greatly reduce your chances of getting stopped by the TJ police. Obviously no guarantees, but as long as you don’t make yourself a target, you’ll be just fine.
