Iran getting defanged

Avatar for rickdugan
rickduganVerified and Certifiable Super-Reviewer

It is long past time that they got what's coming to them. They've been running a 3-pronged proxy war against Israel for decades now. They've also been sponsoring terrorist groups who have been wreaking havoc in other Arab countries.
.
Enough is enough. Israel shouldn't stop until Iran's military and nuclear capabilities are pounded back into the fucking stone age.
.
For all these years, Iran counted on the U.S. to restrain Israel while they pulled this shit. The Middle East would erupt if Israel struck back, or so the theory went. But everyone is now so sick of Iran, including its neighboring countries, that nobody is coming to help, including the rest of the Arab world.
.
So bomb baby bomb!

If one American is killed by Iran, this will provide justification for the US to drop 30,000 pound bunker busters on all Iranian nuclear sites to bury them. One is .5 miles underground and will require multiple poundings. We have them, use them when needed.

Iran's perverted Satanic "leaders" want to live in 900AD, we can pound them back to 900AD to enjoy their 72 virgins who are the gays they murdered just for being gay.

The Arab world being Sunni, never fully trusted and still dont fully trust Israel or Iran.

I dont think its that the Arab countries are sick of Iran. Those countries are just scared shitless of both Israel and the US. They also don’t really have the resources to assist Iran militarily in any way.

Assuming israel beats iran and the 3 proxy groups, what do you think will happen next. Will there finally be peace in the middle east, or do you think israel will attempt expansion since they will be the dominant power there?

The lack of outrage from the Muslim states is a sea change. Conventional wisdom held that an Israeli attack on any Muslim nation would be treated as a declaration of war on all Muslim nations. This proves that Iran has no support from anyone.

Israel has 10 million people in a country the size of New Jersey (our 46th largest state).
Iran has 92 million and would stretch roughly from Denver to Chicago and south to the Gulf of Meximerica.

There already is a (Sunni) Muslim country with a bomb and a quarter-billion people. (Pakistan)

What is the worst part of this , is the mullah spending all his money on weaponry, at least in Israel they make sure to provide bomb shelters for their at risk citizens, another point to make is that IDF makes their forces provide warnings to the Iranian citizens an hour before dropping bombs, yet the Iranian government doesn’t even have air raid sirens.
If it were up to me I’d go after not just their military leaders, I would target the Ayatollah and the President and their parliament, they deserve to be held responsible for the deaths of citizens of both nations.

@RMD: Many of the Arab countries are indeed sick of Iran. I guess you haven't been following some of this, but Israel hasn't been the only target of Iranian proxies. Yemen and Lebanon have been struggling with these same proxies for years now. Iran is also funding destabilizing militias in Bahrain, Iraq and Syria. It's all part of their "Axis of Resistance" campaign.
.
Meanwhile, countries like Saudi Arabia, Jordan and the Arab Emirates have been opposing Iran's efforts through its own proxies. These countries are trying to modernize and have no interest in going back to a fundamentalist state.
.
So Iran is very much alone now. Heck a number of Arab leaders are no doubt privately cheering this on, even as they are posturing otherwise publicly. Iran has caused too much grief to too many governments in the Middle East.

Those same Arab leader’s dont do anything even if it comes to their own fellow Arab brothers in Palestine or Lebanon… so no doubt they wouldnt do anything for Iran which is a different race and sect.

Some of them might be secretly cheering but I also think they’re pissing in their pants.

Hopefully nothing but peace and prosperity. Anyone who thinks that a country the size of New Jersey, with only 10 million people (only 8 million of whom are even Jewish), is going to start attacking much larger Arab nations is fucked in the head. All they've wanted since forever is to be left alone, but fundamentalist regimes like Iran and its proxies simply cannot tolerate their existence.

Did Israel declare in their Constitution to eliminate Islam? Who has been hitting Israel? Iran's number 1 goal is to the destroy Western/Infidel society, and take over all they can?

I like the phrase Trump is using "Spit on us, we'll hit on you." Iran as we know it will be gone before then end of the year.

Iran and it's proxy terrorist thugs attacking Israel, or the USA (now), is like walking up and slapping Conor McGregor. The response will be brutal, and that is what we are seeing today. Now the U.S. is considering dropping its 30,000 lb bunker busters in order to neutralize Iran's nuclear capabilities. The largest that Israel has is a 5,000 lb version, which would require several runs over Iranian airspace to be used safely and effectively given how deep underground the biggest facility is. Bombs away!
.
Iran really fucked up when they attacked Israel directly. They finally gave Israel an undeniable justification for direct action. No doubt they felt stuck between a rock and a hard place when Israel started dismantling its "Axis of Resistance", but they horribly under-estimated Israel's willingness to take the fight directly to them.

Killing the Ayatollah is justified, he’s a murderous bastard himself. Fuck this idea of regime change, that the Iranians can decide for themselves, we should support them if they request, it would be the end of Russian influence in the region, which would be a huge plus, and if we can make this happen the entire region will benefit plus Mr. Trump’s signature achievement “The Abraham Accords” would become the standard for the Middle East, bringing Trumps presidency some real accomplishments and marking his administration as a serious consequential presidency.

@Muddy - the Middle East, like Russia, only respects strength. Netanyahu and most of Israel understands that fact. When someone says they want to kill you, believe them. Obama and Biden, under the influence of Valerie Jarrett, never believed that fact.

Muslims tend to behave themselves well in America, because (though the left thinks this is evil), we demand they adopt American values. Euros have pussified and forgotten Enlightenment values, giving Muslim immigrants no alternative. That's when they start gang raping English girls, only for English police to chastise the victims for provoking them. Or they assault patrons in English restaurants, and the cops reprimand the victim. Or they have literal laws in place against burning the Quran. Or they have no-go zones where they run with impunity. Or they openly demonstrate for Germany to be ruled by a theocratic caliphate.

A commentator said that if Hillary won in 2016, we'd be where the UK is right now, socially. America isn't a Christian nation, but it has bedrock Christian values. We won't miss them until a more brutal set of values supplants them.

They can't wrap their arms around the mindsets of dictators whose actions are driven by higher callings or purposes, at least until the damage begins.
.
Other countries understand this all too well and leverage it in their policy interactions with U.S. officials during Dem administrations. Heck a lot of the high government officials in many countries attended the same universities (Harvard, Yale, Princeton) as their American counterparts and seem to speak the same language, which just further reinforces what all too many Dem pols believe about the real motivations of other governments.

Israel has caused the least amount of civilian casualties in street-by-street fighting in the history of warfare, by far. Muslims like the publicity they get from nazis and progressives when they cause a large number of "civilians" to die. In the same way that progressives like the publicity they get when they become urban terrorists and attack normal americans and our institutions.

.
Iran was given every chance to come to the table and negotiate a true peace. But that was never what they wanted, as they have made clear with never-ending aggression across the Middle East for decades through its various proxies. Who knows what they would have done if they obtained nuclear capabilities?

@Studme: You need better sources. Unlike the "weapons of mass destruction" nonsense, Iran's uranium enrichment progress was widely followed and understood in a variety of international circles. They were very close to having weapons grade plutonium. Why the hell else do you think they had all those nuclear sites buried so deep underground?.

IMO the timing for this was finally right. Israel had already neutralized Iran's air defenses, so it was low risk to our own people. Other Middle Eastern countries are sick and tied of Iran, which is keeping them out of the fray. And we were at the point where, if we waited much longer, they might have succeeded in achieving their uranium enrichment goals.

I am beyond thrilled with this outcome.

Damn man this is a forever war, and we’ve been fighting with our hands tied behind our backs, and the fucking Iranians just kept attacking us over and over. Buddy, that’s just cowardice, we need to stop them now, every single Middle East problem we’ve faced has tentacles back to Iran. Something needs to change, not a Trump fan but I’m glad he did this, imagine if Reagan had actually done something I have to believe 75% of the malign behavior originating in this region would have been avoided, along with how many people have been killed and maimed directly by Iranian actions.

On one hand, I'm unsettled. Intel was that Iran wasn't close to a bomb and our bunker busters might not be strong enough to take out the threat. I'm also worried that we might get into another "regime change" war in much more hostile terrain than Iraq. Not to mention we can't run up more debt to fund another war; if we don't make big changes and I mean now, we're going to be refinancing at much less pleasant rates.

On the other hand, the aforementioned intel wasn't universal, it seems our bunker busters were sufficient, and it's pissing off all the right people, whether screeching socialists, bed-wetting libs, or Icey and the other anti-American dick suckers here.

Either way, we're in it now. May it all work out for the civilized world and against the mullahs.

Stopping Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons is less about protecting one nation (Israel) and more about preventing a new regional arms race and the exporting of nuclear weapons to terrorists. If Iran made a nuclear weapon, then the Saudis would insist on developing their own, then Iraq, and then and then. Also, the Iranians are known for arming their terror proxies. Imagine if the Houthis shot a nuclear shell into the Red Sea and shut down those shipping lanes. What if Iran had been able to gift a nuclear bomb to Hamas as a doomsday device for the next Israeli operation? there is zero doubt that Iran would have armed as many terror proxies with as much variety of nuclear weapons as they could manufacture. This was long overdue.

@Studme: One does not need to be a soldier to be a student of history. And if history has taught us anything, it is that fear-driven attempts at appeasement have never been a deterrent to motivated aggressors.
.
This lesson is often lost on those of us who live in civilized societies and enjoy much abundance. We start to assume that everybody thinks like us, values what we value and wants what we want. But sometimes they don't.
.
Iran's government is a theocratic dictatorship with very different motivations than our own. They've been sponsoring terrorist activities and destabilizing other Middle Eastern countries for decades and were simply not going to stop. Keeping nuclear weapons out of their hands was imperative, even if it means more conflict in the near term.

Iran's earth shattering "retaliation" was to launch a handful of missiles towards a US base in Qatar. Of course Iran made sure to tell Qatar in advance so it would have time to clear its airspace and be prepared to intercept the missiles. 😉
.
Obviously Iranian leaders had to make a show of doing something to save face with their domestic population. But they also obviously knew that if a single American got hurt that Trump was likely to do something very dramatic.
.
The markets, seeing all of this for what it is, have been doing very well today. Stocks are up and oil and treasury yields are down.
.
I don't agree with everything that Trump does, but man is it nice to have effective leadership in times like this. The world just got a lot safer with Iran's nuclear ambitions destroyed and its "Axis of Resistance" broken.

Trump did them (and the rest of the world) a huge solid by using those 30,000 pounder bunker busters - Israel will come to heel and do what they're told now. Regarding the ceasefire violation, israel claimed two iranian missiles were launched, trump claimed it was one, but both admitted they/it didnt hit anything

What lead to the ceasefire talks so soon after iran attacked the Qatar base? Some sources say it was because iran gave a weak response, only firing 12 missiles to indicate they want to deesalate. This is why I've never liked Trump. It doesn't really matter if the nuclear sites were destroyed, what matters is the president is willing to do what needed to be done, destroyed or not it was a successful action, showing the Iranians if they aren't ready to negotiate in good faith, this is an actual demonstration of what we are capable of and they(Iran) can't really do a fucking thing about it. Where Mr. Trump fails over and again is his bluster and exaggeration is totally unnecessary.
.
How much better off would we be if he had just simply stated that we carried out a mission last night to show our resolve and capabilities, no embarrassment needed over the fact that very deeply buried facilities, were only damaged not destroyed, with the clear implication that if the Iranians don't cooperate we can do this again, with even more power and there is not going to be anything that Iran can do to stop us. Wouldn't that have been better then what's going on right now, how an op that was actually successful, can be spun as a failure, purely based on the big fat mouth of our loudmouth braggart of a President.
.
So here you have it this is not an example of Trump Derangement Syndrome, it is more of a proof of how deranged Mr. Trump really is.

@25: Even if that preliminary intel regarding Fordow is true, which we won't really know for some days or weeks to come, the point is that it is not currently operational. If they make the poor choice to try to open it up again and get it running, we have plenty of options to deal with it. It's not like they can put another mountain on top of it. I sincerely doubt the Israelis are going to just sit back and kick their feet up if Iran starts trying to excavate and repair the site.
.
But I do agree on the bluster front. It's a personality flaw of Trump's that I've always found to be quite grating and its not helping his cause outside of his core supporters.

@RD
That was my point, this guy can snatch defeat from the jaws of victory by just opening his mouth.
We've had other presidents that were effective, and didn't destroy their own accomplishments, think about Truman, and he said very little, even though he dropped the bomb on Japan ended the war and probably saved thousands of American lives by doing so, he was effective, how about Reagan, he was great at saying very little, nothing more memorable than "tear down this wall" and a few years later the Soviet Union distengrated, even Obama, came on television made a very short sober speech nothing loud or crazy, told us they executed a raid and killed bin Laden, but Trump over and over keeps stepping in it and making us look like jerks even though he did a great service. Someone needs to exert some control over this man.

^ ^^ I had this conversation elsewhere. Trump's bombast and lack of discipline is part of what endears him to his fans (though it kept my heart in my throat for his 45 term). We're not getting one part of him without the other.

Still, it's an improvement over Obama and Biden who got Iran into its current position.

Rick do you think they could attempt to rebuild but also have some security pact with russia or china. If they have some agreement with russia/china then israel or the US would likely not attack them? And if they dont have that agreement, there would be no point to rebuilding things

As a further update, several competing reports are now indicating that Fordow was in fact destroyed. This includes a statement issued by the Israel Atomic Energy Commission which deemed Fordow to be "inoperable" and that the strikes set Iran's nuclear program back by several years.
.
All of which makes sense. The U.S. dropped a whopping 12 30,000 lb bunker busters on that site alone.
.
One other important point is that, even if they found a way to get their remaining 60% uranium to 90% with their now non-existent centrifuges, we also completely wiped out the only special conversion facility in Iran able to finish the weaponization process.
.
All this adds up to Iran's nuclear program being done for the foreseeable future.
.
I think that the news agencies who rushed to report this single leaked assessment, with no attempt to obtain corroborating information, are going to be very embarrassed when this is all said and done.

^ That old and now seemingly inaccurate news. The Israel Atomic Energy Commission is saying otherwise and they're much better positioned to make that assessment. They also have no reason to lie since by doing so they would be giving away their justification for a future strike on Fordow.

^ I think we are putting too much emphasis on battle damage assessments, the point we should be making is if the Iranians don't behave the way we need them to, there is nothing to stop us from going back and doing it better.

More reports coming in:
.
Israel’s military chief of staff has said Iran’s nuclear program suffered “systemic” damage and was set back years during the 12-day conflict between the nations.
.
“According to the assessment of senior officials in the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) Intelligence Directorate, the damage to the nuclear program is not a pinpoint strike but a systemic one – the cumulative achievement allows us to determine that Iran’s nuclear project sustained severe, broad, and deep damage and has been set back by years,” Eyal Zamir said Wednesday.
.
He added that Israel had completed its goal of removing what he called an “immediate existential threat” from Iran.
.
Again, Israel has no reason to lie. In fact it would hurt them because it would make it harder for them to justify follow-up strikes on the same sites.

The Central Intelligence Agency reports that the strikes “severely damaged” Iran’s nuclear program.
.
The Israeli Atomic Energy Commission—which gets no benefit from fooling itself or us as to Iran’s actual capability—assessed that the combined Israeli and U.S. strikes “set back Iran’s ability to develop nuclear weapons by many years.”
.
International Atomic Energy Agency Director General Rafael Grossi said Iran’s centrifuges are “no longer operational,” having been “completely destroyed.”
.
The Institute for Science and International Security, which closely tracks the Iranian program, issued a detailed assessment, saying the attack “effectively destroyed” Iran’s program by doing “massive damage” to above- and below-ground facilities.
.
Now to be fair, intelligence remains more divided over the fate of Iran’s uranium stockpile. Some Israeli officials are saying that the highly enriched version is “buried beneath rubble at Isfahan and Fordow.” Other entities suggest it might have been moved before the attacks. But without the ability to further enrich it or the Isfahan conversion facility needed to finish weaponization, it won't do them much good.

He was nominated by multiple politicians at different times. One of those nominations specifically mentioned Israel-Iran.
