I’ve been here in Tijuana since Monday. I’ll have a more detailed report later this week, but I thought I’d share with the group a few tidbits:
-
when I arrived, there were no police roadblocks on the bridge heading into town, which was nice to see. I think the mayor didn’t like the fact that tourists were starting to avoid TJ because of the roadblocks, in which gringos would get pulled out of taxis and other vehicles and searched - sometimes losing money by all accounts. Loss of tourists - mongers and non-mongers alike - means loss of revenue, and TJ seems to be heavily reliant upon tourism.

I’m staying at Rizo de Oro this trip. I needed rest after last week was hectic for me, and Rizo’s quiet environment allowed me to get it. Got the Tropical VIP card, however there’s a big difference from my last stay. The 20% discount guys used to get at Senda Norte restaurant with the Tropical VIP card no longer exists, which is a bummer. Not sure why they stopped it, maybe I can find out before I leave. I know that with the HK VIP card, you still get 20% off at Azul.
-
the back space at Las Chavelas has reopened, but it’s a smoking area. There’s been a dancing pole installed and girls perform as the music is synchronized with that heard in HK (the front part of Las Chavelas still has its own music).
-
I’ve had two ladies so far that I’ve brought up to my room - Monica from HK on Monday night, and Fanny (a street girl) last night. Also had a fun afternoon yesterday at Chicago with a couple of waitresses and the DJ as we slammed down a few beers and shots - it was slow at the time. I think a lot of the dancers were looking on at us enviously.

usually I meet up with a wingman or two, but this trip I’m truly on my own for the first time. Today’s my last day here, so does anyone have any advice on how to operate solo inside the ZN?
All for now.

last commentNo advice, but it seems to me you are checking all the boxes. Kudos.

One is never truly alone in the Zona Norte. You're always just an $11 ficha away from solid company.
.
OP, did you check out the new upstairs rooms at BT (on the 2nd & 3rd floor) yet? Put that on your bucket list, I saw them this weekend, very cool, with awesome views of Calle Coahuila. The talent is muddy but there are some diamonds in that rough.

Yeah, like skibum, nothing to add and totally agree with Ron about you are only one fichas away from not being solo.
You are like in this post, only one live update on the TJ Mongers forum as well with feedback...lol
Thanks Op for the update!! Be safe and have fun.

^@RonJax2: true statement. Just finished doing arriba with a girl at Tropical and hoping for one, maybe even two more before the day is done.

opillini... thanks for the update!
I buy the HK VIP card because of its greater usefulness... I'll have to pay attention to see if there's any changes to it on my next visit when I need to buy a new HK VIP card.

I was about to get 20% off with Tropical VIP at Senda Norte around May 1. I wonder if they’ve changed it since then.

Fuck, I ate at Azul like 3-4 times this past weekend. I can NEVER REMEMBER to ask for the VIP discount. So damn it that's like $30-40 I could have avoid feeding the dragon.
.
OP, I'm surprised you didn't get a discount at Senda. Tropical's website tropicaltijuana.com still says you get 20% off at Senda with the BT VIP. HK's website hktijuana.com you get 20% off Senda or Azul. I think it's dine-in only - OP, were you not getting the discount at the restaurant or not getting it for room service?

and the BOGO club coupons confuse the matter too... BOGO coupons used to apply nicely when they were $10... and used to have pretty much full access to the offerings in Azul and Senda Norte.
.
that's one problem with dealing with the clubs in TJ ... they change the rules and the prices sometimes.

Ron, I ate inside Senda Norte twice and showed my TB VIP card twice. On the receipts each time, I didn’t notice any discounts.

Damn, that sucks. And it makes me wonder if the HK VIP card still works for Azul?

and it USED to be that Senda Norte Restaurant would honor the BOGO Tropical Bar coupon without actually having to be IN tropical bar. Azul never had that perk. AND now to use the club BOGO coupon costs you $12 instead of $10. that is true in both Tropical Bar and Hong Kong bar. and of course you got to order through a mesero after you got your BOGO coupon validated at the VIP desk in the club.

it's still not a bad deal IN the club when you're hungry for pizza. I have not tried senda norte's pizza but Azul Pizza I do like even though the crust is pre-made. two pizzas for $12 plus tip. different toppings are available. I'll order one pizza one topping and the other pizza another topping. again (as a reminder) you have to get your BOGO coupon validated by the VIP desk before you order from the Mesaro. and I'll take the leftovers back to my room for snacking on or sharing with others...
