It's still too early to tell what the long term effects of Trump will be. He brings unpredictability to the market which has caused huge fluctuations, but nothing that can't be undone. A year from now is when the Republican party will know if they're in real trouble, or looking good for the midterm election.

It wouldn't be too hard to come up with a comprehensive tariff policy that Trump could announce with Bernie Sanders, AOC, and a few Democrat governors standing next to him for the photo op. But it would likely be tariffs that would kick in after months or years of delay, maybe in phases, to give the private sector time to adapt.

The best thing would be to have a congress and a judiciary which works together to ensure that the good and legal stuff gets done, and the dumb and unconstitutional stuff gets sent to Congress for new laws to be passed. Deporting illegal aliens and pro-terrorism activists is good and legal. Cancelling birthright citizenship is unconstitutional and needs Congress to get to work on another amendment. Buying Greenland or offering statehood to those idiots to our north is dumb (but also not serious, even though the media would like it to be).

Actually I'm in Minneapolis and violent crime has been going down considerably. I walk for miles in downtown Minneapolis because I like to walk. I've never personally witnessed any crime. Some of the biggest problems are to do huge inequality. Democrats want to raise the minimum wage and while Republicans don't want to raise the minimum wage or get rid of it entirely. Republicans are now trying to pass huge tax cuts for the super rich while cutting Medicaid and other things that lower income people rely on. It's hard to think that Republicans would improve inner cities by making the rich richer and the poor poorer which is exactly what they are proposing to do. It makes people more desperate when they feel like the system is rigged against them.

Maybe the illegal immigrants do commit crimes at lower rates than americans do, but if you look at the crime stats for the last 30 years, black and latino groups are committing the majority of the violent crimes, and committing crimes disproportionately to their population size. Whites may be the majority of mass shooters, but mass shooters are only a small percentage of total murders.

Culture heavily influences things. Black americans are probably more likely to commit crimes than black immigrants. Latinos and whites, its harder to say whether the native group or immigrant groups are more violent
